Winners Announcement Expected: October 2010
On the occasion of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, INBAR and the Federation of Hong Kong Industries are organizing the International Bamboo and Rattan Product Ideas Competition to help drive green practices in cities around the world.
The competition theme will respond to the Expo's theme "Better City, Better Life" by focusing on four categories- clothing, food, shelter and transport.
This competition will provide a platform for producers, designers, practitioners, and organizations from around the world to present their innovative approaches to building green cities worldwide with bamboo and rattan.
Objective
This is a products ideas competition related to bamboo and / or rattan.
Provide support for new innovative ideas coming from communities, projects, designers and enterprises and through the sponsorship of the private sector an opportunity to initiate actual commercial production of the winning designs. The selected product designs, initiatives and innovations will be exhibited and published. The competitors will be provided a window to the world for their ideas during an exposition of the selected designs at the World Shanghai Expo 2010 in China.
Selection Criteria:
- Creativity in process, design and innovation
- Overall and measurable resource, water and energy conservation
- Contribution to new uses, new habits and new green environments
- Adaptation of existing designs, fusion and mixing of natural materials into existing contexts
Prizes
This competition will provide a platform for producers, designers, practitioners, and organizations from around the world to present their innovative approaches to building green cities worldwide with bamboo and rattan.
This International competition will promote links between entrepreneurs, designers, community producers and institutions working with bamboo and / or rattan to promote bamboo and / or rattan as a raw material for high-end and innovative products and as a valuable, green, sustainable and modern product.
Rules
- The competition is a global invitation to all individuals, groups, manufacturers, associations, companies, organisations etc.
- The competition is an open and international competition.
- The competition is a products ideas competition related to bamboo and / or rattan.
- The competition will be under 4 categories.
- The competition is organised in one stage.
- The conditions for the competition are the same for all competitors; Submissions will be sent to INBAR, and INBAR will provide the submissions to the Jury without the personal information of the Competitors.
- The Competition conditions are published in English, the competitors may submit their ideas in any language and in English (must have an English translation).
- All the submissions shall be submitted and judged anonymously by the judging panel.
- Neither INBAR staff nor any sponsors will assist the competitors with submissions.

To register please email your completed entry form to ideascompetition [at] inbar.int (please replace [at] with @) before July 31, 2010.
The registration period will close on July 31, 2010 with entries due by August 31, 2010.
