The makers of the 3 winning videos will be invited for a screening on the occasion of the 2010 Europe Day in Vienna, Austria, on 9 May 2010.

Funware Shared Artist in Residence – BALTAN, NIMk and Piksel

BALTAN, NIMk and Piksel have launched an open call for proposals as part of the exhibition project Funware. They are looking for interesting new software art projects that can be developed in the period of June – November 2010 through a shared residency. The new work developed during the residency will be presented in the Funware exhibition at MU in Eindhoven, at HMKV in Dortmund and as part of the Piksel festival 2010.

This residency is a collaboration between three labs, based on a desire to investigate the ways and potential of working within a network of labs that support the exchange and sharing of resources and knowledge.

Book Cover Design Contest No.5 – Venus febriculosa

Venus febriculosa, a website devoted to contemporary literature and the art and design of books, announces its Book Cover Design Contest No. 5.

The purpose of the contest is to foster interest in the relationship of literature to the visual arts through the design of a hypothetical book cover for Patricia Grace’s short story “Parade” from her 1975 collection Waiariki. Previous Venus febriculosa book cover contests have included Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, The Eel by Eugenio Montale, and This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski.

This international competition is open to anyone 18 years or older. Both design professionals and students are encouraged to enter.

Sound Design Competition – Waves Audio

Waves Audio is challenging you to show off your sound design chops to four industry leaders: Scott Martin Gershin, Charles Deenen, David Farmer, and Tom Ozanich, and design the sound for a clip from Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed.

The main rule is to use the Waves Sound Design Suite while designing. If you don't already own the Waves Sound Design Suite, you can download a demo version and use it for the competition. Only one entry per person may be submitted.

The 2010 ResilientCity.org Design Ideas Competition is an exciting opportunity for architects, city planners, urban designers, engineers, and landscape architects, including students, graduate students and interns of these disciplines around the world to contribute ideas about creating more resilient cities.

The purpose of the ResilientCity.org Design Ideas Competition is to stimulate thinking and discourse about how to increase the resilience of our cities as we move into a century where our cities will be subjected to the combined environmental and economic impacts of both Peak Oil and Climate Change.

Like last year’s competition there will be a $1,000 CAN prize for best planning and design idea, but there will be an additional prize of $1,000 CAN for the best video mini-documentary.
