designext 2011 – Surtex International Student Design Competition

Surtex is proud to present its 25th annual International Student Design Competition honoring outstanding art & design students for exceptional surface design work.

The designext competition is open at no cost to students around the world who are in their third or fourth year (junior or senior level) in a college or university and enrolled in a surface-design related curriculum.

Four winners will be selected, and will be given the unique opportunity to display their project at Surtex 2011.

8th International Design Award 2011

1 October 2010 will see the starting signal fired for registrations for the 8th International Design Award 2011. The re-structured concept for the largest student design competition simplifies participation and rewards universities setting and submitting a term/semester project assignment.

Open to students of architecture and design, the competition for the first time also invites entire seminars or groups to take part.

Students in any country enrolled at an educational institution with a faculty of furniture design and/or construction are eligible to enter.

SSFF & Asia 2011 Official Competition

The Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA, a.k.a former American Short Shorts) began in Harajuku, Tokyo in 1999, and introduced ‘short film’ to the Japanese audience. In the 12 years since, the festival has attracted more than 230,000 people, and has become one of the biggest short film festivals in Asia. Since 2004, SSFF & ASIA has been officially recognized as an Academy Award® accredited festival and is the only short film festival that has received this prestigious recognition in Japan.

Grand Prix winner is eligible to receive a consideration for the Academy Award® nomination in short film categories the following year.

37th Toys Designed by Artists Competition

This delightful and ever popular competition was created to recognize and celebrate the playful side in each of us – artists and viewers alike.

Toys may be functional, nonfunctional, child friendly, child proof, too delicate or scary to touch, or begging for tactile tinkering. Successful entries are creative, original, featuring excellence of design and superior craftsmanship.

Purchase awards totaling up to $2500 will be chosen by the Arkansas Arts Center.

Full Frame Documentary Film Festival 2011

Full Frame exhibits nearly 100 documentary films in various categories. By completing the online application, you will be submitting to New Docs, the festival’s competitive program which includes films completed in the last two years.

In 2010, 60 films were selected for New Docs from 1200 entries. New Docs are eligible for a number of awards in various categories. The 2010 festival offered 8 awards, with prizes totaling over $50,000 in cash and services.

The 2011 festival will take place Thursday, 14 April, through Sunday, 17 April.
