RAPIMAN (RApid Prototyping and Innovative MAnufacturing Network) has launched a design competition ‘Free Form Challenge’ within the framework of the iCAT 2012 conference.

Creators from all over the world with design and CAD skills are invited to submit their work(s) as entries within one of the competition topics.

The organizers challenge you to release your creative imagination and design products, as complex as you like, meaning they can be unrestricted by technological limitations.

RAPIMAN Challenges Designers Worldwide

The Free Form Challenge is seeking for product designs on the following competition topics:

  • Interior
    Lights (e.g.: table lamps, chandeliers, reading lamps, etc.)
  • Mock-Ups
    Means of transport (e.g.: cars, bicycles, aeroplanes, boats, etc.)
  • Personal Products
    Jewellery (e.g.: earrings, rings, spectacles, key-rings, etc.)
  • Industrial Products
    Headphones and accessories (e.g.: hands-free headset, headphones for music, headphones for noise protection, etc.).

Each candidate can participate in one or more competition topics, but with just one conceptual sketch / CAD / or STL file within each particular competition topic!

The jury will select the three to five best proposals from each competition topic. Each selected participant will receive a prototype of their product (max. overall size 240 mm), a printed award, and a presentation of their product at the exhibition, which will be held within in the framework of the iCAT 2012 conference and the European Capital of Culture 2012, in Maribor.

Within all submissions and competition topics, the jury will grant three prizes:

  • 1st prize: desktop 3D printer - Ortotip Ciciprint
  • 2nd prize: two 3D printed models selected by the author
  • 3rd prize: 3D printed prototype selected by the author

The organization of the 1st International Animation Festival Chilemonos 2012, announces the open call of its first competition to be realized in the city of Santiago de Chile.

This festival is created to offer Chilean and foreign artists and directors of audiovisual animation a professional space for diffusion and competition, as well as the promotion of national and international audiovisual productions with artistic qualities.

Chilemonos 2012 will be realized in the City of Santiago de Chile, between the 25th and 29th of April 2012.

Chilemonos is Calling for Animations Created Before 2009

Chilemonos 2012 features three competition sections (listed below) open for animated films and videos created before 2009.

  • International competition of short film animation
  • National competition of Student films
  • National competition of animated series

The screening formats are: 35mm - for films and HDCam, DVCAM, MiniDV - for videos. Only copies in NTSC format will be accepted. The non Spanish speaking short animation films must send an exhibition copy with subtitles in Spanish.

The jury of Chilemonos 2012 will give 3 awards in the international competition section and 2 awards in both national sections.

Astra Film Festival (AFF) is a major event in the European film community. The Festival is located in Sibiu – Romania, and it is unique in this part of Europe. Besides the four AFF Competition Sections, it offers a variety of programs showing the diversity and the current tendencies of documentary film.

AFF Sibiu is the place to see great documentaries, to feel the pulse of Romanian and Eastern European documentary film production, meet fellow-filmmakers from around the world, debate upon major issues faced by documentarists while exposing real life and real people on the big screen, and interact with professionals and with an enthusiastic audience.

Prizes in total amount of €25,000 will be awarded to the authors of the winning films.

Astra Film Festival 2012 is Calling for Documentaries

The 12th Astra Film Festival Sibiu accepts documentary films without restriction to theme and length. Films must have cinematographic qualities, artistic commitment and a strong presence of the filmmaker's point of view both in form and content. Creative documentaries and auteur films are specially welcomed.

The Festival consists of:

  • The Official Selection (competitive):
    • INTERNATIONAL (world documentaries);
    • ROMANIA (Romanian productions / co-productions);
    • ECOcinematogrAFF (documentaries on environmental issues);
    • STUDENT (documentaries produced by film schools/filmmaking programmes)
  • AFF Parallel Programs (non-competitive):
    • PANORAMA (International showcase);
    • 11-12.RO (The complete Made in Romania production of 2011-2012);
    • BAROC CINEMA (Baroque culture & Cinema).

Documentaries submitted for the official selection must have been produced no earlier than 1 January 2011. If the original language of the commentary/dialogue is other than English, the films must have English subtitles.

Prizes in total amount of €25,000 will be awarded to the authors of the winning films.

The 12th Astra Film Festival will take place 15-21 October 2012 in Sibiu, Romania.

Anima Mundi, the international animation festival of Brazil, is calling for entries for its 2012 edition. This is a festival that aims to inform, train, educate and entertain by using the infinite possibilities of the language of animation.

In 2012, Anima Mundi will have seven competitive and five non-competitive categories and will award lots of big prizes to the best animations. Plus, selected films and videos will become part of "Anima Mundi on the Road", a special program that will tour in several Brazilian cities for 11 months after the festival.

In 2012 Anima Mundi celebrates its 20th anniversary and this is your chance to become a part of it!

The 2012 International Animation Festival of Brazil is Open for Entries

This year's Anima Mundi will feature the following competitive categories:

  • Short Film - shorts intended for the general public

  • Brazilian Short Film - shorts by Brazilian authors, exhibited in the Short Film and Short for Children screenings

La Macina di San Cresci, residence for artists member of RES ARTIS, announces that the Provincia di Firenze will award two residency fellowships to artists.

The program invites artists from around the world to apply to work for one month in a studio at la Macina di San Cresci.

All artists working in the disciplines of: Photography, Painting, Video and Installation Art, are eligible to apply for a €500 stipend, private room and studio space in Florence.

La Macina di San Cresci will welcome two artists starting 1 July 2012, until 30 September 2012.

Work for One Month in a Studio at la Macina di San Cresci in Florence

This program is open to artists between 18 and 35 years old, in the following art categories:

  • Photography
  • Painting
  • Video-Art
  • Installation art

The theme for the program is "Platform 948: where engage ideas and concepts about the environment."

You'll need to develop a composition in which the machinery of nature and machine of art become one, through a series of interventions and through the perception of the artists. A research that creates "views" and operates in-between reality and the different layers of the territory: the past, the contemporary economic culture, the temporal and spatial interrelationships. A reflection on the socio-cultural, architectural, language, habits characteristics of this place, the environment, the village , interlaced with the man and with habits whom he lives of this environment.

The Fellowship recipients will receive a €500 stipend, private room, studio space.
