New Life Residency is the world's first non-visual residency program for artists. The residency is organized as part of Manifesta 8, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, and will take place this fall in the Region of Murcia, Spain.

For one week each, five artists will be selected to live and work in a dark, visually distorted exhibition space.

To support them in their life and work for the week, the artist will collaborate with a local Murcian assistant who is blind.

Target Group

Due to the site-specific nature of the project and its local collaboration, applicants who speak Spanish will be preferred.

All applicants must apply with their precise concept for this guided tour. A tour of a social sculpture, so to speak.

In cooperation with her/his assistant, the artist will use the one-week residency to create a guided tour of the non-visual space and experience in which s/he is living. The guided tour will take place on the last day of the residency and will be open to the biennial audience. The blind assistant will be the guide of this work in darkness.

Additional to the guided tour, the five selected concept proposals will furthermore be exhibited in one of the main museum locations of Manifesta 8 and will be on view throughout the biennial from 7 October 2010 (preview) to 9 January 2011.

Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral supports visual artists from the disciplines of painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, graphic arts, design, photography, video as well as from new media and landscape art from all over the world by awarding artists-in-residence scholarships.

Eligible to apply for a Balmoral scholarship are international visual artists of any age.

Balmoral Scholarships are awarded for the period of six months.

Target Group

Eligible to apply for a Balmoral scholarship are international visual artists of any age from the disciplines of painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, printmaking, design, photography, video, new media, and landscape art.

The preconditions are a completed course of study in art (M.F.A.) and three years of continuous artistic work after the conclusion of studies until the beginning of the fellowship. Applications are also possible for autodidacts distinguished by special artistic achievements, as documented by exhibitions and prizes.

To foster artistic dialog and interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge of German, English, or French is expected.

An application will not be accepted if the same scholarship has already been awarded to that candidate.

Scholarship Value

Balmoral Scholarships are awarded for the period of six months. They are endowed with €1,200 a month.

The yearly term of residence begins in April. The Balmoral scholarships are an attendance scholarships. One of the conditions is that holders spend at least two thirds of the period stated at Balmoral. All artists invited will have their registered secondary residence in Bad Ems for the time of their stay (compulsory registration).

The scholarship holders dispose of a furnished living/bedroom with shower/WC and a studio including electricity, water and heating. Each apartment is equipped with an individual telephone and internet access. If required, the room is also wired up for radio and television. Due to the historical condition of the building, the apartments and studios in terms of their size and equipment are normally only suitable for one single person. The lounge, the dining room and the kitchen are for joint use. Pets are not admitted.

The scholarship holders can make use of the in-house facilities for free, especially of the

wood workshop
video laboratory Windows XP Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro (in German and English) + Avid Express (in English), DVD writer, video-edit recorder
library and reading room with approx. 5,500 books, particularly on modern and contemporary art and the most important art magazines.

Together with the scholarship acceptance, the applicant will receive an agreement concluded with the Künstlerhaus and the house rules. After the signing of the contract by the scholarship holder, the scholarship is regarded as legally granted.

Scholarship holders are required to write a report about their stay afterwards.

a CV including your artistic career history and previous grants
a statement of reasons why you have chosen this scholarship and an illustration of your objectives during your intended residence (maximum one A4 page)
at least 10, but not more than 20 photos or other images of your artistic works (no slides, no photo CDs, no MAC data CDs), max A4 size
explanations to the submitted works, one A4 page maximum (optional)
at most three exhibition catalogues (collective catalogues only if your works cannot be presented in a different way)
at most three video cassettes (VHS) or DVDs, each recording no longer than 15 min.

The application materials should not exceed a total weight of 2 kg incl. packing.

For the thirteenth time in 20 years the international residency program Akademie Schloss Solitude – located in Stuttgart, Germany – is granting approx. 60 residency fellowships of six to twelve months in duration.

Persons up to 35 or if older than 35 who have completed a university or college degree within the past five years are welcome to apply. Some few fellowships are awarded regardless to the age of the applicant.

International artists are invited to apply.

Target Group

International artists are invited to apply from the following disciplines:

Architecture (architecture design, urban studies, landscape design)

Visual Arts (including performance art and curatorial practice)
Performing Arts (stage design, directing, dramaturgy, playwriting, dance, acting, musical theater, performance)
Design (visual communication, fashion, costume, product or furniture design)
Literature (theory/criticism, essay, poetry, fiction, translation)
Music/Sound (sound installation, sound and music composition, sound and music performance) and
Video/Film/New Media (including video installation).

Fellowships are awarded to artists who finished their basic studies not more than five years before applying to Akademie Schloss Solitude or who are not older than 35.

Scholarship Value

The fellowship includes the following:

A combined apartment / studio, furnished with electricity, water and heat free of charge.
A stipend amounting to €1,000 monthly (plus one-time expenses incurred by the fellowship holder travelling to and from Stuttgart from his or her primary place of residence).The Akademie may also offer additional financial supplements, depending on its respective budget situation.
A supplement for so-called double housekeeping (subsidy for apartment or studio costs); freight cost subsidy for the transport of materials, tools and instruments to and from Stuttgart; a project promotion subsidy and a one-time materials subsidy; in the case of non-German guests (from non EU-countries), assumption of part of their health insurance expenses.
The use of the workshops owned by Akademie Schloss Solitude under the supervision of the technical director, are free of charge for fellowship holders.
In light of the historical character and architectural substance of the building, the combined apartment/studios are generally only suitable for one person. In special cases the Akademie will consider allocating two studios for families.
All artists invited to stay at Akademie Schloss Solitude are obliged to establish residence in Stuttgart for the duration of the grant (compulsory registration).

Pour l'Instant is looking for eight residents for their annual call - Creative Stay For Young Photographers.

A technical centre, fully equipped to professional standards, including a black and white darkroom and a digital workshop is reserved for their exclusive use. In this context, the young artists are invited to create and experiment. They have total carte blanche to work as they wish, stimulated by their encounters, exchanges and the diverse approaches of other participants.

This amounts to a truly unique artistic experience.

Scholarship Value

All supplies required for creation, accommodation, breakfast and evening meal from 27 August to 11 September 2010 are fully covered during the residency.

During the residency, the selected artists must produce an exhibition. Created works will be exhibited at the end of the stay until 24 October, and will then be added to the collection of works constituted over the years by the association. All negatives and original digital files remain the property of the author.

The work submitted by the selected candidates will be exhibited from 25 June to 9 September. Selected candidates must agree to ensure that works for this exhibition arrive at the address of Pour L'Instant in Niort by 10 June (transportation costs will be reimbursed by the organisers during the residency upon presentation of invoices).
Only those applications that include sufficient stamped, self-addressed packaging can be returned.

Application

Candidates must send the completed application form, together with a CV, a text describing their artistic approach and a representative selection of recent work. The description of a project envisaged for this residency can be added to the application, but is not obligatory.

Print submissions (traditional or digital) can be of any format and quantity.
For digital submissions (on CD or DVD only), image files must be in low resolution, Mac/PC compatible format, without requiring any downloading. Web sites cannot be considered as part of a candidate's application.

Then sign up for Time to design – new talent award 2010. The award is aimed at young designers in the beginning of their career, who have already shown potential and talent. A highly qualified jury will select the best design proposal.

The award includes three months residency at The Danish Art Workshops with own mini studio as well as access to workshops and guidance. If accommodation is needed an apartment is available as well.

Objective

The concept behind the award is to give an opportunity for young designers to develop talent and skills under the best possible conditions.

With diverse views on future design, an exciting cooperation between The Danish Art Workshops, Normann Copenhagen and Link UP formed the foundation of Time to design – new talent award in 2008.

The cooperation between the private and the public sector forms a distinctive platform for the growing talent and facilitates room and space for challenging projects and ideas.

Prizes

The award includes three months residency at The Danish Art Workshops with own mini studio as well as access to workshops and guidance. If accommodation is needed an apartment is available as well.

Furthermore the winner is granted with career coaching by OeO, two weeks exhibition at the Normann Copenhagen Flagship Store in Copenhagen and DKK 50,000, sponsored by TA, the Danish Association of Wood and Furniture Industries, to cover material costs.

Rules

You're eligible to enter if you are a designer in the beginning of his/her career or student.
Danish as well as foreign candidates can apply.
The winner should prove persuasive design skills and capability– by virtue of his/hers works up to now and by a specific project description.
The winner should prove a professional approach to the design profession, including understanding of materials, functionality, aesthetics and environmental matters.
The application project should have a character, which is suitable for a residency at the Danish Art Workshops and a subsequent exhibition at Normann Copenhagen Flagship Store.
The project/design can be within furniture, textile, industrial or product design.
The project can be of commercial or artistic nature.
The winner must accept conditions regarding the time of the residency, economy and exhibition period.
Only applications submitted in time will be evaluated. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Only applications submitted via the electronic application form will be accepted.
The application must be accomplished by a specific project description and visual material.

Nordic Artists' Centre Dalsåsen is a contemporary art institution that runs an artist-in-residence program and related activities. The program aims to encourage international contacts for artists and focuses on visual culture including design and architecture, locally rooted practice and Nordic as well as international processes.

The centre is located on the norwegian west coast, north from Bergen. The nkd receives funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture.

Introduction

The Nordic Artists' Centre is a contemporary art institution that runs an artist-in-residence program and related activities, with focus on visual arts, design and architecture. The centre is situated on the norwegian West Coast, in municipality of Fjaler. The Nordic Artists' Centre is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture.

Target Group

Professional artists, designers, architects and curators are eligible to apply for residency.

The selection is based on artistic merits and the quality of artistic practice. Applicants from outside the Nordic region are expected to be fluent in English. Please note that the program is not available for students.

Duration

Residency periods are from 2 to 4 months. Please indicate preferred time and length of stay in the application but note that the nkd reserves the right to suggest a different period or/and length of residency.

Scholarship Value

The residency at the Nordic Artists' Centre includes a monthly grant of 6700 NOK, living and working space, as well as covered travel expenses up to 5500 NOK. Artists' houses are fully equipped, studios are 50m², with a wireless internet access available in both houses and studios.

BALTAN, NIMk and Piksel have launched an open call for proposals as part of the exhibition project Funware. They are looking for interesting new software art projects that can be developed in the period of June – November 2010 through a shared residency. The new work developed during the residency will be presented in the Funware exhibition at MU in Eindhoven, at HMKV in Dortmund and as part of the Piksel festival 2010.

This residency is a collaboration between three labs, based on a desire to investigate the ways and potential of working within a network of labs that support the exchange and sharing of resources and knowledge.

Target Group

Proposals are welcome from professional artists worldwide;
The concept should fit within the theme of the exhibition Funware, in which it will be presented;
The work should be created using free/open source software;
The artist should have experience working in collaborative settings with people from different disciplines;
The artist must be willing and able to travel to Eindhoven, Amsterdam and Bergen for residency periods (exact dates and period will be made in accordance with the artist);
The artist must be willing to openly and thoroughly document the artistic process.

The organizers offer:

The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is seeking applications from international artists for 4–6 week individual production residencies to take place between fall 2010 and summer 2011. LIFT is a member-driven non-profit organization that provides affordable access to equipment, education and community for those who want to make film based works, out of a passion for, and commitment to, the practice of filmmaking.

A wide range of production formats are supported including 8mm, Super 8mm, 16mm, Super 16mm, 35mm and HD film and digital editing, optical printers; contact printers; animation stands; a darkroom and more. Toronto also offers a wide range of lab facilities, a large pool of experienced technicians and talent, a vibrant film community and a dynamic arts environment.

Target Group

LIFT's residency program focuses on the production of film-based works with equipment and facilities to which the artist would not have access in their local region.

Artists are expected to be at an established point in their practice (although not necessarily working predominantly with film). Applicants should also consider what they would bring to the Toronto community in terms of community collaboration, teaching, artist talks and/or presentation activities – these engagements are a critical part of each residency offered by LIFT.

Scholarship Value

The maximum cash funding for projects is $3,000 (CND) for travel, accommodation and per diems. Equipment and facilities will be provided by LIFT to a maximum of $3,000 (CDN), LIFT equipment rates can be found at here.

The artist is responsible for the costs of all film stock, chemicals, lab fees and other expendables.

The Sumu Residency Programme is open for new media artists, working in the intersection of new technologies and contemporary art. This includes performance art and all types of new media: sound art, video art, installations, etc. Artists can apply to the residence once a year with an individual submission, which should include CV, samples of recent work and a project plan.

The proposal can include an exhibition, which takes place in the end of the residency, either in the studio space or on Artists' Association Arte website.

Sumu Programme started in 2006 and it is the first residency programme specializing in new media art in all of Finland.

The main selection criteria are the quality of previous art and the proposal: the committee also wishes that the artist will show their work at the end of the residency or make some kind of happening during the residency somewhere in the city.

The artist gets up to €200 per month for work expenses in Turku. Studio, accommodation and exhibition space are free of charge. The artists have a possibility to give lectures in Arts Academy of Turku and give paid workshops in their chosen field.

The artists must fund all their living expenses including food and transportation.
The submissions will not be returned.
E-mail or internet applications are not accepted, only submissions sent by mail are processed.

The Artists-in-Residence Program of KulturKontakt Austria offer a three-month scholarship in Vienna for artists from Central and Eastern Europe, including a studio, accommodations, insurance, a monthly scholarship of €1000 and a presentation of the artist's works at the end of his or her stay in the Austrian capital.

Artists up to the age of 25 from 17 countries are eligible to submit entries.

In addition to the three month scholarship from KulturKontakt Austria, the winner will also receive a monetary prize of €2000 from Henkel CEE.

Objective

The Henkel Art.Award. Promotional Prize for Young CEE Artists, which is organized as part of the Artists-in-Residence Program of KulturKontakt Austria, invites fine artists in the fields of painting, drawing, photography, video and installation to take part in the prize competition.
