La Macina di San Cresci, residence for artists member of RES ARTIS, announces that the Provincia di Firenze will award two residency fellowships to artists.

The program invites artists from around the world to apply to work for one month in a studio at la Macina di San Cresci.

All artists working in the disciplines of: Photography, Painting, Video and Installation Art, are eligible to apply for a €500 stipend, private room and studio space in Florence.

La Macina di San Cresci will welcome two artists starting 1 July 2012, until 30 September 2012.

Work for One Month in a Studio at la Macina di San Cresci in Florence

This program is open to artists between 18 and 35 years old, in the following art categories:

  • Photography
  • Painting
  • Video-Art
  • Installation art

The theme for the program is "Platform 948: where engage ideas and concepts about the environment."

You'll need to develop a composition in which the machinery of nature and machine of art become one, through a series of interventions and through the perception of the artists. A research that creates "views" and operates in-between reality and the different layers of the territory: the past, the contemporary economic culture, the temporal and spatial interrelationships. A reflection on the socio-cultural, architectural, language, habits characteristics of this place, the environment, the village , interlaced with the man and with habits whom he lives of this environment.

The Fellowship recipients will receive a €500 stipend, private room, studio space.

The Design Museum, a museum in London that celebrates the talent of the world’s best designers and architects, continues to support the next generation of designers and creatives with its Designers in Residence programme. Design Museum's Designers in Residence programme 2012 is now open for applications!

The exhibition showcases the work of young designers at the beginning of their careers offering the opportunity to interact and engage with the public, whilst using this platform as a test-bed for ideas, designs and innovations.

Designers in Residence is only open to designers who live, and are eligible to work, in the UK.

The Design Museum, Supporting Next Generation's Designers + Creatives

Design Museum's Designers in Residence Programme is only open to designers who have graduated from Higher Education within the last 5 years (within the 2007/8 academic year or more recently) and have been working professionally, either paid, or voluntarily in some form of design practice for at least one year.

Applications must be in response to the brief and feature new work or the development of an existing project. If an application is based on existing work the development of the work in response to the brief should be clear.

Only one application will be accepted per designer.

The Design Museum will select a short list of between six and eight designers who will be invited for interview at the Design Museum in March 2012 (exact date tbc.) Those shortlisted applicants invited for interview will be contacted by email or phone.

The selected Designers in Residence will each receive commission fee to create a new piece of work in response to the brief. This work will be shown in a dedicated exhibition at the Design Museum between Wednesday 29 August 2011 and Sunday 27 January 2013.

Applications must be submitted using the online application or by email to Inresidence2012 [at] designmuseum.org (please replace [at] with @). Sketches, models and other material should be scanned or photographed and sent as attachments following the official instructions, along with competition entry forms.

BADGAST is a research based artist in residency at the coast of The Hague/Scheveningen where Satellietgroep invites artistst and scientists to develop and present research that articulates a cultural, innovative and sustainable significance of the sea and its coasts.

Kaman Art Foundation is calling visual artists, performing artists and art critics to apply for the international artist village residency - Sowing Seeds 2011.

Sowing Seeds is a project that intends to create dialogues and exchanges amongst artists beyond their national identity and serves as an opportunity for rural artists to meet, share and exchange ideas, visions, and diverse views in order to create a deeper understanding of art.

The artist residency will bring together 15 international artists practicing in a wide variety of media, collaboration, outdoor sculpture, documentation, or performing to bring benefit to a specific site and share ideas and methods for a period of 14 days in the village of Barmer, Rajasthan (India).

Target Group

  • Young and emerging visual artists, performing artists and critics - Artists who are able to stay at village Gelavas for the designated period of time
  • Artists who are able to produce results of his or her residence activities, e.g. exhibitions, performances, concerts or presentations
  • Artists who are able to communicate and collaborate with local people and participate in the exchange program

Number of Residencies

A total of 15 artists will be selected.

14 days (20 December 2011 - 2 January 2012)

Residency Value

The artists residency will provide the selected artists with full lodging and food, work space, local transportation and a small material stipend.

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery announces another monthly Juried Competition. The Juried Book Competition of Photography, Poetry and Prose - Open to Interpretation has another international open call for entries. This time the call is themed: Intimate Landscape.

Landscapes conjure images of vast, sweeping scenes, but the details captured by a photograph can turn a seemingly impersonal setting into an intimate story. It's up to the artist to define what constitutes an intimate landscape, be it representational, non-representational, urban, suburban or rural.

Each volume of Open to Interpretation represents a unique collaboration between photographers and writers.

Objective

Submit images related to the call theme, which is: Intimate Landscape.

All images created will be accepted for consideration, including but not limited to film, digital, alternative process, mixed media, digital manipulations, old world processes, pinhole, solar etchings, iPhone, etc.

Either color or black & white is acceptable.

Launched in 2007, the Freedom to Create Prize is a celebration of the courage and creativity of artists, and the positive influence of their work to promote social justice and inspire the human spirit. The Prize is open to all forms of art, in any creative field and any individual or group of any gender, religion or nationality.

In 2010, nearly 2,000 artists entered from more than 100 countries.

In 2011, a total prize fund of US $100,000 will be awarded to the winning artists and their nominated advocacy organisations to further the cause their artwork has highlighted.

Objective

The Freedom To Create Youth Prize encompasses all forms of art in any creative field.

The Prize has two categories: the Main Prize, open to individuals or artistic groups in all creative fields over the age of 16 and the Imprisoned Artist Prize, focusing on artists who are currently imprisoned for their artwork.

Entries for the Freedom to Create Main Prize and Imprisoned Artist Prize will be evaluated by a panel of distinguished judges based on the following criteria:

  • The creativity of the artist in pursuing the freedom to create and conveying their message for social justice.
  • The courage and/or personal risk the artist has demonstrated in pursuing the freedom to create while promoting their work.
  • The subject matter of the artwork and its relevance to a particular social issue.
  • The creativity the artist has displayed to demonstrate how art can influence change.
  • The extent to which the artist embodies the vision, mission and values of Freedom to Create.

Prizes

In 2011, a total prize fund of US $100,000 will be awarded to the winning artists and their nominated advocacy organisations to further the cause their artwork has highlighted.

  • Main Prize
    The first place winner will receive US $50,000 which will be shared with an organisation nominated by the winning entrant to further the cause the artwork has highlighted. The first runner up will receive US $15,000. The second runner up will receive US $10,000.
  • Imprisoned Artist Prize
    The prize of US $25,000 is awarded to one winner, to be directed towards securing the artist's release, advocating on behalf of them and their cause and offering support to their family.

Winners of the 2011 Freedom to Create Prize will be unveiled in November 2011, at the Freedom to Create Award Ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa.

The aim of the [HONG KONG] Alternative Car Park Tower International competition is to design an iconic and Alternative Car Park Tower in the heart of Hong Kong. This is an open international competition hosted by [AC-CA] to generate progressive contemporary design ideas.

The new tower will include several possibilities for events such as concerts, art exhibitions, fashion shows, ceremonies dinners, cinematic projections, etc.

Architects, Engineers and Students are eligible. Interdisciplinary teams are also encouraged to enter the competition. There are cash prizes for competitors finishing first, second and third.

Objective

The architecture of this new building should reflect contemporary design tendencies, standing out for its uniqueness as a car park design, while meshing in with the surrounding Hong Kong urban tissue. The [HONG KONG] Alternative Car Park Tower competition hopes to achieve the following:

  • Encourage and reward design excellence on a large scale, which integrates function, structure, details, etc.
  • Research, respond to and highlight the unique aspects of designing an original car park incorporat- ing an alternative program.
  • To generate the discussion of ideas regarding car park security and all the phobias associated with it such as fear of dark, dirty, cold, etc.
  • Encourage the employment of sustainable design in all aspects of the proposal.

Entries will be evaluated based on the following 5 main criteria:

  • Intelligent and appropriate use of all design principles.
  • Use of space and perceive traffic flow within the space.
  • The Design’s aesthetics and originality.
  • The use of sustainable material.
  • Clarity and comprehensibility of the design.

Art Moves Africa (AMA) aims to facilitate cultural and artistic exchanges within the African continent.

AMA offers travel funds to artists, arts professionals and cultural operators living and working in Africa to travel within the continent in order to engage in the exchange of information, the enhancement of skills, the development of informal networks and the pursuit of cooperation.

Once every four months, a selection committee of the Mobility Fund of artists and cultural operators within Africa, reviews and selects the applications.

Target Group

Art Moves Africa supports all artists and cultural operators living and working in Africa for travels within and between the African regions. Art Moves Africa encourages individuals to continue applying even if previously rejected.

Art Moves Africa supports the travel of artists and cultural professionals working in the following artistic fields:

  • Performing arts : theatre, dance, story telling...etc
  • Music
  • Visual arts
  • Cinema
  • Literature

Art Moves Africa encourages participation at any event which enables:

  • flight tickets (economy class) are booked and paid directly by AMA office. Visa and travel insurance expenses are transferred after the return of grantee and upon providing all original receipts.
  • you must contact the Embassy of the destination country at least two months before departure to know the procedures for the visa. In case you get an AMA grant, please don’t hesitate to ask our office, for an AMA support letter to facilitate your visa application
  • the grant will be cancelled if the grantee and/or the Host Organisation fail to fill the grant guidelines and deadlines.

How to apply?

To request a travel support, you must fill in carefully an application form (available for download on the official website) and explain the objectives of their travel.

  • Application forms have to be sent by email only to the following address: applications [at] artmovesafrica.org (please replace [at] with @) before a deadline (Please see below for deadlines)
  • Applications are individual, they must be sent by the person planning to travel. Companies are welcomed to apply, with a limit of three persons maximum; each person should fill an application form. However, the three applicants could provide similar motivation as the two other members, but within their own application form.
  • Please do not send any other attachments with the application, except for the invitation letter
  • Please send the application in Word format
  • Are automatically rejected: Applications sent after deadlines, Collective applications, Hand written, scanned and PDF format Applications, Applications that doesn’t respect AMA format.

Application deadlines:

  • 1 January (before 06:00 PM West Africa Time): for the travels planned from 1st March onward
  • 1 May (before 06:00 PM West Africa Time): for the travels planned from 1st of July onward
  • 1 September (before 06:00 PM West Africa Time): for the travels planned from 1st of November onward
