The Luxembourg Society for Contemporary Music announces its 10th International Composition Prize for 2013 in cooperation with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.

Composers from all over the world are invited to present new works for an orchestra consisting of seven traditional Chinese instruments and seven classical western instruments.

Four monetary prizes will be awarded and the prize-winning works will be issued on CD.

Present New Works for an Orchestra of Seven Traditional Chinese Instruments + Seven Classical Western Instruments

The pieces may be scored for the full ensemble of 14 musicians. Compositions, in a single movement, have to consist of 9 music sections. Each music section shall be inspired by a painting / photograph of a scene or scenery. The pictures are up-loadable online.

Only one entry per person will be accepted.

The judges will select four works in a preliminary round. These works will be premiered at the Final Concert to be given in Hong Kong on 11th January 2013. During the Final Concert, the selected works will be performed together with a slide show of the pictures providing inspiration.

Four prizes will be awarded: €3,000 / €2,000 / €1,500 / €1,000 and the prize-winning works will be issued on CD.

FILE - Electronic Language International Festival is open for new entries, by the end of February, to be exhibited in FILE 2012 exhibition. The 13a- edition of FILE in São Paulo will happen between July and August, 2012, in the Art Gallery of SESI-SP at FIESP Ruth Cardoso Cultural Center.

The Festival accepts lots of different types of artworks in 3 main groups: sound and music artworks, interactive artworks and digital artworks.

Besides exhibition entrance, FILE will receive proposals for lectures and workshops to participate at FILE Symposium and Workshop 2012. Both events will happen simultaneously during the first week of FILE 2012 exhibition, in São Paulo.

Young pianists from around the world are invited to register for the 8th International Piano Competition "J. S. Bach" 2013. The competition is an opportunity to compete in playing selected works from Johann Sebastian Bach.

The Competition will conclude with the prize winner concert in March 2013. Four main cash prizes and two special prizes are available for the best young pianists.

This is a competition open to candidates born after 1st April 1976, i.e. who are no older than 36 at the time of the contest.

Promoting and Underlining the Importance of the «Bach-Image»

This contest offers young pianists of all nationalities the opportunity to compete together with a view to promoting and underlining the importance of the «Bach-Image» both in public concerts and in the field of teaching.

In the contest, candidates should not only demonstrate pianistic and artistic skills, but also a strongly developed awareness of style in their Bach interpretation. Scope is nevertheless given for individual interpretation within the framework of original texts.

This is a three stage competition which concludes with a concert. The prize winner concert will take place on 21st March 2013, 7.00 pm. in the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg -- Gebäude „Am Residenzplatz“, Hofstraße 13.

Amadeus is the name of the annual international contest of choral composition which is now accepting submission for its sixth - 2011 / 2012 - edition.

The contest is one of the activities of the Contemp-Coralia project, which is trying to promote and dynamize contemporary music and musicians inside and outside the region of Extremadura. Contemp-Coralia belongs to a greater project called Extremadura Y Su Música, which has been carried out in the region since 2003.

The 2011 / 2012 International Amadeus Contest of Choral Composition will award four main prizes - each consisting of €500, performance, edition of the work and promotion - and other special prizes.

An International Choral Composition Contest Aimed at Choral Composers + Students of All Nationalities

The current International Amadeus Contest of Choral Composition 2011/2012 is aimed at choral composers and students of all nationalities, no limit of age, interested in promoting contemporary music, with a special emphasis on music from Extremadura, its development and promotion.

The themes of compositions are free, but in order to be eligible for the prize that will be awarded to the “best work with a theme relevant to Extremadura”, works will necessarily be based on melodies/texts from or related to Extremadura.

Works must be unpublished and cannot have been registered either as a whole or partially before the jury’s decision. Works previously awarded in this or other competitions will not be awarded this prize.

Every author can submit a maximum of two compositions for each modality (2 in mixed and 2 in single voice).

The Amadeus contest will award four (4) main prizes - each consisting of €500, performance, edition of the work and promotion - and other special prizes, such as the "Outstanding Work" prize.

The 2012 John Lennon Scholarship competition is open only to U.S. college students between the ages of 17 and 24. Three scholarships with prizes totaling $20,000 will be awarded to the best original songs submitted to the competition.

The 2012 John Lennon Scholarship competition is open to applicants who have reached their 17th birthday as of 13 April 2012 and are less than 25 years of age as of that date. Anyone who enters, may submit only one song to the competition.

The submitted work must be an original song with lyrics accompanied by whatever instrumentation is chosen by the applicant. Both lyrics and music must be original and not based on any prior work. Also, no rights to the submitted work may have been assigned to a major music publisher or to a major record label.

The entry may be submitted either by mail or by email.

Former winners of the John Lennon Scholarship Award are not eligible to enter the 2012 competition, but songwriters who have previously received an Honorable Mention in the competition may enter the 2012 competition.

Three scholarship awards will be available for the 2012 competition, one for $10,000 and two for $5,000.

• All entered work must have been completed between 1 January and 31 December 2011.

The Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), one of the biggest, most traditional institutions of advanced artistic education in the world, is announcing the 2012 UdK Award for Interdisciplinary Art and Science!

This competition aims to give artists (fine art, media, architecture, design, music, theatre, visual communication etc.) and/or scientists the impetus and opportunity to work on content in the field of tension between the arts or between the arts and sciences.

The UdK Award for Interdisciplinary Art and Science is given on a biennial basis and is endowed with €7,500!

A Chance for Artists and Scientists

Art and science are moving towards one another, discovering common issues and working methods. The creative, imaginative processes in the arts and sciences are similar, whereas the concrete realisation of their results tends to differ. Repeatedly, this difference is the source of productive tension and areas of friction. In all disciplines of the arts and sciences, further developments over recent decades have been characterised by mutual influences and efforts at differentiation. Today, traditional dividing lines between the spheres can no longer be maintained; they are being newly defined and presented in their permeability.

This competition aims to give the impetus and opportunity to artists (fine art, media, architecture, design, music, theatre, visual communication etc.) and scientists to work between the priorities of the arts or between the arts and science.

The organizers expect innovative work that has not yet received a prize or award in any other competition to date.

The UdK Award is Awarded Biannually

The prize is endowed with 7,500 Euros and it can be divided among a max. of 3 artists/scientists or groups.

The UdK will also produce a publication of the prize-winning work(s) subsequent to the prize giving ceremony.

The prize-winner(s) are obliged to attend the award ceremony during the UdK Berlin’s Open Days (“Rundgang”) on Friday, 15 July 2012. The prize-winner’s travel costs will be refunded up to a sum of 1,000 Euros.
