<p><!--INFOLINKS_ON-->Rio Grande is once again inviting all emerging artists to submit original jewelery designs and compete for huge prizes. This is another chance to take part in the annual Saul Bell Design Award Emerging Artist Competition!</p>
<p>Now entering its fifth year, the Emerging Artist competition invites you to seize the challenge, to push your best ideas into the center of the spotlight. There are no limitations on medium, as long as the finished piece is wearable jewelry, designed and fabricated by you!</p>
<p>Winners will be announced to the public during JCK Las Vegas, 2012 and celebrated during an invitation-only gala.<br />

<h3 id="objective">Calling for Fresh, Original, Wearable Jewelry</h3>
<p>Submit <strong>original and new jewelery designs</strong> to that haven't been featured or won any previous competition. There are no limitations on the medium.</p>
<p>The preliminary round of judging requires a <strong>rendering or photograph of your design</strong> (must be at least 4" x 6") mounted on an 8½" x 11" white matte board; no slides will be accepted. A single image is preferred, although composites are appropriate if multiple views are relevant to your specific design.</p>
<p>Pieces are judged on the following criteria:</p>
<ul>
<li>The innovation and uniqueness of the design.</li>
<li>The quality of workmanship of the finished piece (for final judging).</li>
</ul>
<h3 id="prizes">Prizes for the Designers and the Mentors</h3>
<p>To recognize those who provide mentorship and support to young designers, Rio also awards a matching prize to an instructor or school of the winner’s choice.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>First Place</strong>: <strong>$500</strong> Rio Grande Gift Certificate (plus a matching award to the instructor or school)</li>
<li><strong>Second Place</strong>: $250 Rio Grande Gift Certificate (plus a matching award to the instructor or school)</li>
<li><strong>Third Place</strong>: $100 Rio Grande Gift Certificate (plus a matching award to the instructor or school)</li>
</ul>
<h3 id="rules">Emerging Artist Competition Regulations</h3>

<li>Any designer 18 years of age or younger is welcome. Employees of Rio Grande or any affiliate or participating company (and immediate family members) may not participate.</li>

These should reflect avant-garde design, with identity and inspiration, and also be competitive at an international level.</p>
<p>In this edition, the theme that will set the tone for the development of the incredible designs by all who wish to take part in the competition will be: Dimensión Digital.<br />

<h3 id="objective">Objective</h3>
<p>The 23rd International Jewelry Design Competition 2011 is considering any <strong>jewel used on the body, such as glasses, belts, earrings, brooches and pins, rings, pendants, combs, tiaras, cuff links and others</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Required working materials for the design</strong>: silver, precious and semi-precious stones by Swarovski Gems.</p>
<p>Digital technology is blending seamlessly with handcrafts, defining new skills for future artisans and resulting in a new process of design which is both technological and hand-made, sustained by fast manufacture.</p>
<p>New shapes and explorations of materials are created through a combination of tradition and technology.</p>
<p>Innovation is finding inspiration in polar landscapes, where organic design and transparent qualities provide a basis for artificial design. Fast prototyping will pave the way for unlimited creation, where natural and artificial meet to create new hybrids, bringing together the best of both worlds.</p>

<p>Polaroid Eyewear will produce the best designs under its "Best Under The Sun" Signature Sunglass Collection to be launched globally in spring 2013.</p>
<p>Anyone with a design affinity can participate in this competition. The entrant should have design knowhow and should be capable of doing a technical drawing (or have somebody doing the technical drawing for them in line with their original design idea).<br />

<h3 id="objective">Objective</h3>
<p>The first "Best Under The Sun" Collection was successfully launched in spring 2011 with 10 original designs from the Polaroid archives featuring stunning sunglasses from the 1930s to the 1980s. Now, Polaroid Eyewear is looking to launch fresh, new designs inspired by different decades.</p>
<p>Impress Polaroid Eyewear with <strong>fresh sunglass designs</strong>, inspired by a decade between 1930 and 2020 that you have created.</p>
<p>For each submitted sunglass design, each participant will have to either come up with 2 detailed technical drawings (created in .ai or .dwg), a front view and a side view, or one 3D drawing (created in .3ds). The drawings must be uploaded onto the official webpage as PDF.</p>
<p>Each participant has to come up with a short description of the idea/story behind the product, a description of materials and measurements, as well as a recommendation for a matching product name.</p>
<h3 id="prizes">Prizes</h3>
<p>Submissions will be featured on the Polaroid "Best Under The Sun" webpage and Facebook page. The online community along with an expert jury at Polaroid Eyewear will select up to 10 best designs and the winners will be announced by April 2012.</p>
<p>Up to <strong>10 best selected designs will be launched globally in 2013</strong> as part of the Polaroid "Best Under The Sun" Signature Sunglass Collection and will have the designers' names in the product description. The winning designers will be paid royalties on every piece of their style sold and will have the opportunity to present their design at the prestigious MIDO optical fair in Milan.</p>

<li>Designed as a sellable, wearable product that can be manufactured</li>

<p>Thanks to its complexity “Performance Sportswear” is a particularly interesting subject for inter-disciplinary projects or collaboration between different segments such as fashion and industrial design, yet also the garment technology sector, as well as textile and communication design.</p>
<p>The European Fashion Award – FASH 2012 is divided into the categories <strong>Students</strong> and <strong>Graduates</strong>. All submitted projects satisfying the rules and guidelines for the topic “<strong>Active – Performance Sportswear</strong>” will be evaluated according to the following criteria:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Overall Concept</strong> (analysis, strategy, understanding and realization of the topic, target group, interdisciplinary character)</li>
<li><strong>Innovation/Vision</strong> (impulses for sports, level of fashion, pattern innovation, finish, patents, etc.)</li>
<li><strong>Functionality</strong> (mobility, ergonomics, material selection)</li>
<li><strong>Understanding of the Selected Sport</strong> (history, relevance of the design)</li>
<li><strong>Technical and Design Implementation</strong> (sketch quality, presentation, workmanship, fit, colour concept, branding suggestions)</li>
</ul>
<p>Please consider that the submission deadline is <strong>14 October 2011</strong>.</p>
<h3 id="prizes">Prizes</h3>
<p>Prizes include photo sessions for all winning collections by a renowned fashion photographer as well as comprehensive communication services. In addition to cash prizes totalling <strong>€10,000</strong>, there is also an <strong>internship at Gore Bike Wear</strong>.</p>
<p>Overall, all prizes are valued at <strong>more than €80,000</strong>.</p>
<h3 id="rules">Rules</h3>
<ul>
<li>The competition targets especially talented design students from all areas of design, in particular from the sectors of fashion, textile and industrial design. The competition is open to students who are enrolled at a European university or fashion institute, in the 4th semester or higher. Students from outside of Europe are also eligible. However, special conditions apply for their participation.</li>
<li>Entries may include projects by individuals or projects established by interdisciplinary teams (particularly encouraged) and/or in cooperation with companies. Also eligible are final projects, theses and dissertations or bachelor and master projects, if they comply with the scope of the described task and were compiled in 2011. Previously published designs entered in the competition will not be taken into consideration.</li>

<p><!--INFOLINKS_ON-->Venus febriculosa, a website devoted to contemporary literature and the art and design of books, announces its Contest No. 7: Hunger. The purpose of the contest is to address the cause of world hunger through the design of a poster that may be used in a global hunger awareness campaign.</p>
<p>Previous Venus febriculosa book cover contests have included Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, The Eel by Eugenio Montale, and This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski.</p>
<p>The designer of the winning submission will receive a cash award of $1200 and will be featured on Venus febriculosa.<br />

<h3 id="objective">Objective</h3>
<p>The purpose of the contest is to <strong>foster interest in the relationship of literature to the visual arts</strong> and to <strong>address the cause of world hunger through the design of a poster</strong> that may be used in a global hunger awareness campaign.</p>
<p>Artwork must contain the words "<strong>hunger killed where grief had only wounded</strong>". Attribution to Dante/Heaney is encouraged but not required.</p>
<p>Image requirements:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Size</strong>: A2 420mm x594mm (approximately 16.5" x 23.5")</li>
<li><strong>Orientation</strong>: Vertical (Portrait) Only</li>
<li><strong>Resolution</strong>: 300 dpi preferred. 3MB Maximum file size.</li>
<li>Image file name should include the entrant's name only (e.g.: Firstname Lastname.jpg)</li>
</ul>
<p>Submissions will be evaluated on how creatively they address the theme of hunger and its appropriateness in a global hunger awareness campaign.</p>
<h3 id="prizes">Prizes</h3>
<p>There will be one winner. The designer of the winning submission will receive a cash award of <strong>$1200</strong> US and will be featured on the Venus febriculosa website (venusfebriculosa.com).</p>
<h3 id="rules">Rules</h3>
<ul>
<li>This international competition is open to anyone 18 years or older.</li>
<li>Both design professionals and students are encouraged to enter.</li>
<li>Only one entry per person is allowed.</li>
<li>All design entries must be an original artwork of the entrant's own creation. Use of copyrighted materials without permission of the owner will result in disqualification from the contest.</li>
<li>Should no entry have sufficient merit in the eyes of the jury, the contest sponsors retain the right to not name a winner.</li>
<li>Should the determinations of the jury result in a tie, the contest organizers retain the right to divide the prize money among the winners.</li>

<p>One lucky winner will hear their music played at Space Ibiza, at DJmag’s party on the 5th June – as part of a prize offering to bedroom producers in a competition hosted by Clickproduce.</p>
<p>As well as DJmag supplying flights and accommodation for the winner and a friend. What's more, the winner will also receive a copy of Ableton Suite 8, a Novation Launchpad, 25SL MkII and Nio 2/4, £100 Clickproduce voucher, and have their winning entry mastered and included on a CD Pool promo compilation, which is delivered to key industry tastemakers.</p>

<h3 id="objective">Objective</h3>
<p>So what do you need to do? Simply go to Clickproduce, register, and download a special sample pack. This contains an array of the highest quality beats, bass, synth/keys files, loops and one-shots. They are all royalty free so you can use them in your production, but you may just want to take inspiration from them and <strong>create your own piece from scratch</strong>.</p>
<p>There is one '<strong>signature sound</strong>' which is the only compulsory part you will need to use - you can warp, effect and twist this sound as you wish, though it must be audible as a theme in some form.</p>
<p>Feel free to add your own sounds, loops and presets, though don’t include uncleared samples of recorded works. Once you’re finished, simply upload the track to Clickproduce’s Soundcloud Dropbox.</p>
