BendFilm celebrates the brave voice of independent cinema through films, lectures and education.

The Festival new independent films in the following categories:

  All non-student short films are invited to submit in this category - including short docs. and animated shorts.
• Conservation

  All animated films are invited to submit in this category. The organization of the 1st International Animation Festival Chilemonos 2012, announces the open call of its first competition to be realized in the city of Santiago de Chile.

This festival is created to offer Chilean and foreign artists and directors of audiovisual animation a professional space for diffusion and competition, as well as the promotion of national and international audiovisual productions with artistic qualities.

Chilemonos 2012 will be realized in the City of Santiago de Chile, between the 25th and 29th of April 2012.

Chilemonos is Calling for Animations Created Before 2009

Chilemonos 2012 features three competition sections (listed below) open for animated films and videos created before 2009.

• International competition of short film animation
• National competition of Student films
• National competition of animated series

The screening formats are: 35mm - for films and HDCam, DVCAM, MiniDV - for videos. Only copies in NTSC format will be accepted. The non Spanish speaking short animation films must send an exhibition copy with subtitles in Spanish.

The jury of Chilemonos 2012 will give 3 awards in the international competition section and 2 awards in both national sections.

Astra Film Festival (AFF) is a major event in the European film community. The Festival is located in Sibiu – Romania, and it is unique in this part of Europe. Besides the four AFF Competition Sections, it offers a variety of programs showing the diversity and the current tendencies of documentary film.

AFF Sibiu is the place to see great documentaries, to feel the pulse of Romanian and Eastern European documentary film production, meet fellow-filmmakers from around the world, debate upon major issues faced by documentarists while exposing real life and real people on the big screen, and interact with professionals and with an enthusiastic audience.

Astra Film Festival 2012 is Calling for Documentaries

The 12th Astra Film Festival Sibiu accepts documentary films without restriction to theme and length. Films must have cinematographic qualities, artistic commitment and a strong presence of the filmmaker's point of view both in form and content. Creative documentaries and auteur films are specially welcomed.

The Festival consists of:

Anima Mundi, the international animation festival of Brazil, is calling for entries for its 2012 edition. This is a festival that aims to inform, train, educate and entertain by using the infinite possibilities of the language of animation.

In 2012, Anima Mundi will have seven competitive and five non-competitive categories and will award lots of big prizes to the best animations. Plus, selected films and videos will become part of "Anima Mundi on the Road", a special program that will tour in several Brazilian cities for 11 months after the festival.

The 2012 International Animation Festival of Brazil is Open for Entries

This year's Anima Mundi will feature the following competitive categories:

Another very important thing is that, Anima Mundi is now a qualifying festival by the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences. The recipient of the "Best Film Award" in the short films category may be eligible to enter the Animated Short Film competition for the concurrent Oscar® season, provided that the films meets all the requirements set forth by the Academy’s official rules for that season.

There is no restriction regarding themes or genres and no limit in the number of works submitted per entrant. However, a separate entry form is required for each work.

Canadian Film Institute and International Polar Year Seek Films that Focus on Arctic and Antarctic Regions

The Polar Film Festival will celebrate the rich diversity of the Polar Regions, as well as examine the many challenges and world-wide implications they face in the 21st Century and onward.

As a follow-up to the IPY Film Festival presented by the CFI in 2009, this event highlights the efforts of filmmakers from around the world who approach the Polar Regions from many different industries, research interests, artistic sensibilities, and political perspectives.

The CFI welcomes all films that explore issues and activities of particular relevance to the Arctic and/or Antarctic regions. Any genres of film and video practice — documentary, research, industrial, fiction, activist — from either Polar Region are encouraged for submission.

Video submissions can be mailed directly to the CFI as a playable DVD or Blu-Ray disc. Digital entries may be submitted via direct download link, or any common digital media format such USB drive or DVD-ROM. Entrants are asked to include production credits, digital stills, director bios and filmography, contact information, and other relevant materials with their submissions.

The 3rd creative documentary film festival MakeDox is calling for entries for the traveling cinema caravan across the Republic of Macedonia, 2-11 August 2012.

Striving to not only promote the documentary film but also to decentralize the culture on national level, MakeDox will organize, as it did last year, open air film screenings in six Macedonian municipalities.

The Festival also has competitive sections and non-competitive programs open for new documentary films of all running times, topics, style and production technologies.

MakeDox 2012 is Calling for Fresh Creative Documentary Films

MakeDox, an international film festival organized by the citizen’s association MakeDox, aims to promote creative documentary film production in the Republic of Macedonia and to support documentary story telling in general.

MakeDox focuses on creating a stimulating environment for the exchange of experience and knowledge of documentary creation and promotion of films with cinematographic quality, offering the creative point of view of an author, both in terms of content as well as in form.

Documentary films of all running times, topics, style and production technologies can be submitted. However, only the films completed and/or publicly screened after 1 January 2010 can participate in the competition program.

The deadline is short but there's still time to use MakeDox to promote your works!

The Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) is held every spring in Jeonju, the traditional city of Korea.

Launched in 2000, JIFF is now recognized as one of the most important film festivals in Asia that introduces independent and experimental films from around the world.

The 13th Jeonju International Film Festival will be held in Jeonju, South Korea for nine days from 26 April to 4 May, 2012.

The Woosuk Award, a cash prize of $10,000 + a fund of $5,000 will go to the director of the winning film.

The Jeonju International Film Festival Promotes Independent + Experimental Films from Around the World

The programs of Jeonju International Film Festival are largely composed of a competition section and a non-competition section. The competition section consists of the following four (4) competitions:

• International Competition
• Korean Feature Film Competition
• Korean Short Film Competition
• NETPAC AWARD (Best Asian Film Award)

Priority will be given to films presenting their world, international or Asian premiere at the JIFF. Submitted films must not have been released in Korea.

Eligible film formats and video systems are as follows:

• Film: 35mm, 16mm
• Video: Digital Betacam(NTSC), Betacam(NTSC), DV Cam(NTSC), HDV, HD -D-Cinema: Window Version, Linux Version

The Jeonju International Film Festival will give out the following awards in 2012:

• Woosuk Award (Grand Prize): a feature film which best embodies the spirit in creative filmmaking activities and paves the new way for contemporary cinema; a cash prize of USD 10,000 + a fund of USD 5,000 will go to the director of the winning film.
• JBbank Award (Special Jury Prize): a feature film which best embodies the spirit in creative filmmaking activity and paves the new way for contemporary cinema; a cash prize of 7,000,000 Korean WON (about USD 7,000) will go to the director of the winning film.
• JIFF Audience Award: The audience of JIFF will select their favorite film shown in International Competition, Korean feature film Competition, and present the ‘Audience Award’ along with precious local gifts.
• Netpac Award: The award is given to the best Asian film screened in the Cinemascape, Stranger than Cinema, and Cinemafest section. A cash award of 5,000 USD will be given to the best Asian feature film by the NETPAC Organization Committee.

Each selected film will be notified for acceptance individually before 31 March 2012.
