All artists working in the disciplines of: Photography, Painting, Video and Installation Art, are eligible to apply for a €500 stipend, private room and studio space in Florence.

This program is open to artists between 18 and 35 years old, in the following art categories:

The theme for the program is "Platform 948: where engage ideas and concepts about the environment."

You'll need to develop a composition in which the machinery of nature and machine of art become one, through a series of interventions and through the perception of the artists. A research that creates "views" and operates in-between reality and the different layers of the territory: the past, the contemporary economic culture, the temporal and spatial interrelationships. A reflection on the socio-cultural, architectural, language, habits characteristics of this place, the environment, the village , interlaced with the man and with habits whom he lives of this environment.

The Fellowship recipients will receive a €500 stipend, private room, studio space.

The Portrait Award, now in its thirty-third year at the National Portrait Gallery, is an annual competition aimed at encouraging artists to focus upon and develop portraiture in their work.

The competition is open to everyone aged 18 and over in recognition of the outstanding and innovative work currently being produced by artists of all ages working in portraiture.

Last year 2,372 artists submitted their work and the exhibition, which featured fifty-five paintings, was seen by over 341,000 people at the National Portrait Gallery.

The BP Portrait Award 2012 exhibition will run at the National Portrait Gallery, London, from 21 June to 23 September 2012.

Recognizing Outstanding Work by Artists Working in Portraiture

The work entered should be a painting based on a sitting or study from life and the human figure must predominate.

The work entered must be predominantly painted in oil, tempera or acrylic and must be on a stretcher or board, preferably framed and unglazed. No watercolors, works on paper or pastels will be considered.

• Minimum size: 25 x 20cm (10” x 8”) unframed. Any works smaller than this will not be considered.
• Maximum size: 244 x 244cm (96” x 96”) framed.

• First Prize: A cash award of £25,000, plus, at the judges’ discretion, a commission worth £4,000, to be agreed between the National Portrait Gallery and the artist.

This incredible trip will run in October 2012. The prize includes flights from the UK and accommodation is in comfortable camps – a truly unforgettable experience.

All of the category-winning pieces will be showcased at the prestigious annual exhibition of the Marwell International Wildlife Art Society in August 2012, in a special display alongside the work of 200 other artists and sculptors. The awards ceremony will take place on the opening night of the exhibition.

The overall winning artwork will also be displayed at The Natural Eye, the 48th annual exhibition of the Society of Wildlife Artists at the Mall Galleries, London, in autumn 2012.

The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards (WPGA) are currently open for entries for the 3rd Portraits and People Competition. Photography, drawing and painting artworks are eligible for submission. Entries are accepted in five distinctive categories.

This is a two stage competition. The first stage can be entered free of charge, which basically means that you'll need to pay the entry fee only if your artwork gets selected.

The 3rd Portraits and People Competition will result in a maximum of 100 images selected for publishing online and in a book. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the best two entries.

WPGA is Calling for Portraits and People Artworks

Colour and black and white images are accepted. The competition is related to the following themes:

• People: Snap shots (or drawings and paintings) and street photography/drawing/paintings where people are predominant in the scene – quoting Cartier Bresson: the “decisive moment”. Travel photography/drawing/painting displaying the different cultures around the globe; images about the daily life of the family, people at work, ceremonies and rituals, games people play and children at school; sports and wedding; conflicts and the aftermath…
• Figure and Nude: Composed image of a person in a still position; an art form, where the photography/paint/draw of a nude or the human figure is a stylized depiction of body with the line and form of the human figure as the primary objective; it is an image that studies the human body rather than the person; as opposed to a portrait may not show a face at all.
• Portrait: Images capturing the likeness of a person or a small group of people, in which the face and its expression is predominant.
• Self Portrait: When the artist creates a portrait of him- or herself; it could be alone or with other people if the composition configures a desired environment.
• Children: The visual presentation of children as individuals.

Digital manipulation, as well as mixed techniques –including painting and drawing- is welcome.

Selected images will be featured online and published in the book: Portraits & People Third Edition. The book will be published and on sale on or before the end of 2011.

A maximum of 100 images will be accepted to be published. All images accepted for the book will be published online and remain available for one year.

The 3rd Portraits and People Competition is Open Worldwide

• There's no limitation regarding the date your images were taken or done.
