VIPA 2012 is Seeking Excellence in Documentary Photography

The 2012 Vienna International Photographic Awards accept single photo or series entries, which focus on documentary photo-reportages such as social, cultural, political or environmental issues.

Besides the total value of €7000 in money prizes the short-listed winners will be published in the VIPAʼs official catalogue.

The 3rd Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF) photography biennial is returning for its third installment, and will open on 5 October 2012.

In its continuous mission to discover emerging artists and original, contemporary photographic works, the 3rd SIPF welcomes the participation of all artists of merit. This is an opportunity for talented individuals to present their works alongside esteemed photographers, and also an international platform for aspiring or established artists to reach out to a wider audience.

Through its open call SIPF 2012 welcomes participation from all photographers regardless of nationality.

Get Your Works Exhibited Across Singapore

The Singapore International Photography Festival looks to discover talented individuals in photography. Participants do not have to be certified, qualified or a professional photographer, as long as they can submit a body of work of no less than 7 and not more than 17 images. Entries shot on either film or digital cameras are eligible. However, all images submitted must be in digital file format.

The 3rd SIPF Open Call gives free reign for photographers to submit their most original and exciting body of work by having no thematic restrictions.

The SIPF curators will select works by 50 photographers, from all the submitted entries. Selected works will be exhibited across Singapore in the 3rd SIPF held between 5 October and 15 November 2012.

All entries must be submitted on-line through the official website.

SIPF 2012 welcomes all photographers to participate regardless of nationality. In the last SIPF, 6500 works were submitted from which 550 outstanding prints by 48 photographers of 23 different nationalities were shortlisted.

La Macina di San Cresci, residence for artists member of RES ARTIS, announces that the Provincia di Firenze will award two residency fellowships to artists.

The program invites artists from around the world to apply to work for one month in a studio at la Macina di San Cresci.

All artists working in the disciplines of: Photography, Painting, Video and Installation Art, are eligible to apply for a €500 stipend, private room and studio space in Florence.

La Macina di San Cresci will welcome two artists starting 1 July 2012, until 30 September 2012.

Work for One Month in a Studio at la Macina di San Cresci in Florence

This program is open to artists between 18 and 35 years old, in the following art categories:

  • Photography
  • Painting
  • Video-Art
  • Installation art

The theme for the program is "Platform 948: where engage ideas and concepts about the environment."

You'll need to develop a composition in which the machinery of nature and machine of art become one, through a series of interventions and through the perception of the artists. A research that creates "views" and operates in-between reality and the different layers of the territory: the past, the contemporary economic culture, the temporal and spatial interrelationships. A reflection on the socio-cultural, architectural, language, habits characteristics of this place, the environment, the village , interlaced with the man and with habits whom he lives of this environment.

The Fellowship recipients will receive a €500 stipend, private room, studio space.

Commemorating Prince Naris Day 2012 with a Contest on the Theme: Water

This year, the university will arrange the 8th International Photographic Contest on the theme “WATER” to pay tribute to the artistic achievements of H.R.H. Prince Naris, to promote the artistic and cultural knowledges to the interested public, to develop the photographic art circle in Thailand to reach a global standard as well as to enhance the sharing experiences, ideas and various perspectives in art and culture of the photographers around the world.

Entries are not restricted to any particular photographic or artistic techniques. Photographic entries may be in color or in black-and-white and may be taken with a standard film camera or a digital camera. The size of photographs should be 16 inches x 20 inches or 16 inches x 24 inches.

Each photographic entry must have been newly taken and must never have been exhibited in public and awarded in any contests.

Silpakorn University will award the following prizes:

  • 1 Grand Prize - The winner will receive 80,000 baht in cash with the certificate and the H.R.H. Prince Narisaranuvattivongse medal of distinction;
  • 5 Prize Winners - Each winner will receive 25,000 baht in cash with the certificate and the H.R.H. Prince Narisaranuvattivongse medal of distinction;

The Photocrati Fund offers $5000 grants to photographers to undertake important humanitarian and environmental photography projects. The goal is to identify outstanding photographers and to provide the resources necessary to pursue projects that will have a tangible and positive effect on the world.

The 2012 Photocrati Fund competition is open from January 2012 through 1 April 2012. The 2012 Photocrati Fund award will be announced at the Look3 Festival of the Photograph in Charlottesville, Virginia in June 2012.

The grant winner will become a Photocrati Fellow for the calendar year from the announcement of his/her award until the announcement of the following year’s award.

$5000 Photography Grant for Professional and Emerging Photographers Worldwide!

This grant is intended for both pro and emerging photographers.

The grant is open to photographers over 21 years of age from any country worldwide, but applicants should have a proven ability to produce outstanding imagery and coherent photo essays, as well as the background necessary to carry out the proposed project. This means that for photographers planning to complete a project in a country other than their own country of origin, there should be a clear demonstration of preparation for work in that country (i.e. proper visas, contacts, language training, etc.).

Each submission may contain only one project proposal and each applicant may apply only once per submission cycle.

The application consists of just two items: a one-page project statement and bio, and a link to your online portfolio submitted via email.

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) conducts an annual democracy themed photography competition to profile the many ways individuals demonstrate a sense of civic responsibility. Entries are now being accepted for the 2012 edition of the competition.

The contest is divided into two categories: one open to the public and another open exclusively to IFES employees including former employees, interns and consultants.

One winner and as many as ten finalists will be named for each category. The winner in each category will receive a prize of $600.

An Annual Photography Competition About the Electoral Process

The IFES Photography contest seeks photographs of individuals taking part in the electoral process or other activities that demonstrate the values of democratic governance and citizen engagement.

Photographs must have been shot by the entrant within the past sixteen months (since 1 November 2010). Each online entry must also include a brief description explaining how that image is representative of the contest theme.

Cropped photos are eligible in all categories, but you may not submit photos that have been digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents, are acceptable.

One winner will be selected for each category. The Public Category winner will receive $600 (USD). One winner of IFES' Choice category award will receive $600 (USD).

Get Your Photos Published in the Next Edition of Fotoblur Magazine

Submit as many photos as you like in relation to the next edition themes.

  • Lines, Shapes, and Patterns: Images which possess one or more of the following forms: Lines which lead the eye, shapes which create in interesting composition, or repeated patterns.
  • Conceptual: Images which represent a concept or idea. Your images should attempt to convey a message. Usually this message is conveyed through some abstract symbolism which can be interpreted by the viewer.

Submitted photos are voted on by the Fotoblur community, but the final selections are made by the Fotoblur Magazine editors.

Selected images will be published in Fotoblur Magazine, Issue 13.
