It includes an exhibition, symposium, workshop, artist commission-residency, and a resulting publication. The title refers to the unfixed nature of photography. It explores the elusive “truth” of photography and its relationship to ideas of ethnicity, culture and identity in contemporary art.

Scholars, artists, writers and professionals are invited to submit proposals for visual and/or textual presentations or papers on topics relating to Unfixed.

They could also concern photography’s relationship to other media, vernacular photography, found photography, documentary photography and/or visual culture. Some key theoretical points that strongly relate to the project include cultural hybridity and transculture.

Proposals could also consider current political discussions about culture (assimilation and integration) as they relate to visual culture and photography. Unfixed is looking forward to receiving proposals that look at the inventive aspects of photography.

Proposals are welcome for both or either platform (publication/symposium).

Next to ‘traditional’ essays proposals for visual essays are also welcome, which can include vernacular or found photography, and/or photo-works made by applicants, etc.

Proposals for essays or presentations with innovative formats (performance-based presentations, multimedia projects etc.) are encouraged.

Mozilla Labs is back with a new Design Challenge – and this time you don’t need to be a designer to participate! Join the Contacts Design Challenge and help define & create the next wave of social applications both in the browser and on the Web.

Mozilla Labs is looking for creative answers to the question: “What are the interesting uses of having a complete list of all your contacts and relationships in your browser, for both local browser applications and services on the web?”

Explain your idea or concept with a short video, not longer than 3 minutes.

Objective

To participate in this Design Challenge you need to create a short video explaining your idea(s), presenting the mockup and showing how your idea works.

Your video can contain anything from a napkin drawing, a wireframe, to a polished graphic/prototype.

Imagine that a website can ask for permission to access your contacts – it could use this information to send messages to your contacts, or to discover which of your friends are already using the service. What other experiences could be enabled? How could the experience be presented in the browser? How could my friends’ and coworkers’ experience of the web affect my web experience?

Or imagine a Firefox add-on which allows you to share interesting websites you discovered with your friends by simply selecting them from your Contacts list. The add-on could then determine which is the best way to contact each particular contact on your list and send out emails, tweets or status updates on social networks.

Mozilla Labs is interested to hear from you what you would like to use Contacts for – what would be a useful or fun use case for you?

Prizes

All submissions will be presented on the official website and honors for "Best in Class" in the categories Innovation, Execution, Interaction, Producible plus a People's Choice Award will be bestowed.

Rules

This design challenge is open to everyone.

Your video should not be longer than 3 minutes.

To facilitate the free exchange of ideas, all content and contributions will be licensed under appropriate open source licenses.

How to enter?

Upload your video to a website such as Vimeo, YouTube or Flickr, tag it with "mozconcept" and fill out the submission form (don't forget to add a short description of your concept) to register your submission.

Festarte VideoArt Festival - III International Competition 2010 is a competition of Video Art that comprises an exhibition, awards, and subsequent touring shows of selected works in a few principal Italian museums.

Since 2005, The Associazione Culturale FestArte has been promoting the Festarte Video Art Festival initiative - an international Video Art competition. The initiative developed through an international competition of Video Art that offers new possibilities of expression to young talent in the field as well as to established and innovative talents through selected works in both a contest and in shows, including traveling exhibits to promote artists and the diffusion of their works.

Objective

Submit your short videos to the competition. The video pieces must appertain to the genre of video art, and correspond to the theme without any technical limitation to their realization or date of production.

Festarte challenges the artists to investigate on a kind of violence that does not injure the body, that is not visible, that hurts without touching, that dims the mind, deteriorates the existence and the vital force. Perceiving it, uncovering it – a breath of freedom.

The invisible violence is not much recognizable. Often it thrives in the environments that supposedly should embrace us; it can be hidden in unsuspicious attitudes or creeps in the historic, cultural and political contingency.

The invisibile violence is present in a private, public, social context. We are shaped and we do invisible violence.

Prizes

The Festival also anticipates the exhibition of an ample selection of submitted works. Further showings of the selected works will be subsequently held in a few of the principal Italian museums.
