The Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival is the only exclusively independent animation festival in Canada, with a focus on experimental and self-produced animated film. GIRAF plays an essential role in the promotion, education and appreciation of independent animation from around the world, exposing hungry local audiences to the best animated content from at home and abroad.
GIRAF6, presented by Quickdraw Animation will take place from 3 - 7 November 2010 at the Plaza Theatre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Objective
Submit independent short animations. Selection criteria is based on artistic merit alone.
Prizes
Each year GIRAF presents 4 awards in the following category for short films:
- The AMAAS Best of Alberta Short Animation Award (Juried)
- The Best of Canada Short Animation Award (Juried)
- The Best International Short Animation Award (Juried)
- The Audience Favourite Short Animation Award (Audience)
Rules
- GIRAF6 is open to Canadian and international filmmakers.
- Entries must be submitted on DVD (NTSC region free). Entrants may submit more than one entry, however, each entry must be on a separate DVD and accompanied by an original completed and signed entry form.
- Preview DVD’s must be labled with title of entry and entrant’s name.
- Productions must be Independently produced, with the Director retaining complete editorial control.
- Animations produced within the past 3 years are eligible to enter.
- Maximum running time is 20 minutes.
- Selected works can be screened from 35mm, but otherwise will be submitted digitally following precise guidelines given by the organization. Submission of an entry indicates acceptance of all regulations, a guarantee that a screening copy (in proper format) will be made available for the dates of the festival, and authorization to publicly exhibit the entered work at both GIRAF6 and Best of GIRAF6 screenings.

Online or emailed previews will not be accepted.
Entries must be received by Quickdraw Animation Society no later than 2 August 2010.
Screening copies must be received by October 1 st 2010.
