Hasselblad is accepting submissions for the 2010 Hasselblad Masters Awards competition. Each year Hasselblad awards the title of Master photographers in a range of specially defined categories. Awards are granted in recognition of the photographer’s contribution to the art of photography and photographic ability in the areas of creativity, composition, conceptual strength, and technical skill.

The Hasselblad Masters Award is the most prestigious awards in the industry, each year celebrating the best in both established and rising photographic talent. Past Masters include both renowned artists of international standing as well as promising newcomers in a wide range of fields and disciplines.

Introduction

The Hasselblad name has been linked with cameras almost since the early days of photography itself. First merely selling, then producing the tools through which vision is captured. And our tradition of designing cameras with photographers in mind, for superior image quality, for reliability and versatility goes back more than half a century years. And the story behind our cameras is almost as fascinating as the cameras themselves.

Objective

Submit your photographs in the official categories available below.

This year, we a new category for entries is introduced, Wildlife Photography. This means that 11 Hasselblad Masters designations will be awarded in the

  • Fine Art,
  • Nature/Landscape,
  • Social/Wedding,
  • Portrait,
  • Fashion,
  • Editorial,
  • Product,
  • Architecture,
  • General Photography,
  • Up and Coming, and
  • Wildlife categories.

Prizes

Each of the 2010 winners – one photographer from each of the 11 categories - will receive a framed diploma certifying their Masters‘ status and a presentation of their work on the Hasselblad website. Winners will also be given the use of an H4D camera, the flagship of the Hasselblad system, with which to capture images for a unique, commemorative photography book, with each winner rendering a personal interpretation of a given theme.

Rules

  • With the exception of the up-and-coming category, submitting photographers must have been active (active means earning 51% or more of income from photography) professionals for more than three years and submitted images must be captured with a medium or large format system. The up-and-coming category is open to all active professional photographers, regardless of length of time in the business, and submitted images may be captured with any large format, medium format, or 35mm digital system.
  • The Masters award is open to all active professional photographers.
  • To be eligible for judging, submitted photos must be shot using some form of medium or large format system.
  • No 35mm photography will be accepted.
  • Submissions must be made digitally, regardless of capture form.
  • Photographers may submit images for multiple categories.
