Rustines | Lab is a creative research-creation lab dedicated to supporting media arts, new media, and audio art projects. The lab’s primary purpose is to provide the community with a place to connect with various actors and practitioners in both local and international contemporary art scenes. Once a year Rustines | Lab hosts one free software and hardware research residency. If you have practice in digital art or/and in computer science or/and electronic you’re eligible to enter. The objective of this program is to assist in the development of a free software and/or hardware project targeting the digital arts milieu.

Scopio – the International Photography Magazine is accepting entries for its second international photography contest. The second edition of the Scopio International Photography Contest is created to increase photography in architecture, searching for new talents and awareness towards photography and architecture both in Portugal and abroad, and moreover to raise a wider appreciation of our architectural, cultural and intellectual inheritance. The selection of the best works will be published in the second issue of the Scopio Magazine. All awarded participants will also receive a certificate.

The 2011 Fourth Beijing International Music Competition – String Quartet will be held from 16th to 23rd September 2011 in Beijing, China. The competition is open to string quartets of all nationalities and races whose members are under the age of 35. Founded in 2006, the Beijing International Music Competition (BJIMC) was established as a cultural project promoting classical music education and appreciation in China by bringing together musical masters and young musicians from all over the world. So far, more than 240 young and talented musicians from around the world have applied to participate in the competition.

The IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards) program is the premier international competition honoring design excellence in products, ecodesign, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts. Entries are invited from designers, students and companies worldwide. Starting 1 December 2010, the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) is accepting entries to its 2011 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) program. Winning entries receive coverage in hundreds of print and broadcast media networks around the world. IDSA has been honoring design excellence via the IDEA Awards since 1980. IDEA was formerly known as the Industrial Design Excellence Awards.

Renaissance is an international photography competition where all funds raised go to support breast cancer, and which culminates in a one week exhibition in London. The BP Portrait Award, now in its thirty-second year at the National Portrait Gallery, is an annual event aimed at encouraging artists to focus upon and develop portraiture in their work. Offering huge prizes, the BP Portrait Award is open for portrait painting from young artists worldwide. The competition is limited to one entry per artist. The BP Portrait Award 2011 exhibition will run at the National Portrait Gallery from 16 June to 18 September 2011.

Fresh Film Festival is the place for all you aspiring young filmmakers to have their masterpieces screened in front of captive audiences, get invaluable feedback, see the latest inspiring feature films, take part in workshops and enter for consideration in the Ireland’s Young Filmmaker Competition annually. Fresh Film Festival began in 1997 as the Irish Schools Video Competition, an annual festival to showcase the work of filmmakers under the age of 18 years. The 2011 Fresh Film Festival will take place from 28th to 31st March 2011.

The 2nd Annual BrickStainable International Design Competition has attracted teams from 45 different countries to take on the challenge of designing a sustainable net-zero structure using brick as the primary building material. The BrickStainable Competition, now in its second year, has already received 205 registrants from 45 different countries and is expecting the number to increase before the closing date. The top winner will receive a $10,000 cash award and a trip to DC where the Competition Awards Ceremony at the National Building Museum will take place.

The Charlatan Ink Art Prize calls for entries from artists practicing visual art, for its inaugural edition. The winner of the inaugural Charlatan Ink Art Prize for the Visual Arts 2011 shall receive the Charlatan Ink Art Prize Silver Ink Well and $25,000 US in prize money. The Charlatan Ink Art Prize will be held biennially in New York from 2011 onwards, but in an innovative twist will be traveling every other year around the globe. Possible 2012 venues 2014 for 2016 and 2018 are in chronological order Brisbane/Australia; Graz/Austria; Cracow/Poland and Shanghai/China.
