The d3 Natural Systems competition for 2011 invites architects, designers, engineers, and students to collectively explore the potential of analyzing, documenting, and deploying nature-based influences in architecture, interiors, and designed objects. The competition calls for innovative proposals that advance sustainable thought and performance through the study of intrinsic environmental geometries, behaviors, and flows. By identifying, examining, and applying their structural order on form and function – bottom-up, performance-based solutions for limitless building typologies, functional programs, and material conditions may be realized. ObjectiveAn architecture of emergence suggests that design expression requires purpose beyond formal assumption and aesthetic experimentation itself.Concurrent with sustainable thought, the d3 Natural Systems competition assumes that architecture does not simply form, but rather perform various functions beyond those conventionally associated with buildings.Design submissions must be environmentally responsible while advancing inventive conceptual solutions. Although proposals should be technologically feasible, they may suggest fantastical architectural visions of a sustainable global future.

The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards invites professional and non-professional photographers, as well as photography students worldwide, working in all media and to submit their work to the 3rd Edition of The WPGA Annual Pollux Awards. Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery announces a juried competition with the theme “Nature” in which 2D artists (including photography & excluding video) from around the world are called upon to make online submissions for inclusion into the Gallery’s June 2011 online group exhibition. Light Space & Time encourages entries from all 2D artists regardless of where they reside and regardless of their experience or education in the art field. A group exhibition of the top five finalists will be held online at the Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery during the month of June 2011.

The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is accepting applications for film Production Support Grants for 2011. In an effort to foster independent filmmaking, LIFT has made up to $20,000 in equipment credits available to eligible Associate and Full LIFT members. The funds are intended for production or post-production purposes. A single project can receive a maximum of $2,000 in equipment credits. Filmmakers at all levels of experience are welcome to apply.

En Foco’s New Works Photography Fellowship Awards is an annual program selecting three or more U.S. based photographers of Latino, African or Asian heritage, and Native People of the Americas and Pacific, through a national call for entries. The 15th edition of these awards is now open for entries. New Works helps artists to create or complete an in-depth photographic series exploring themes of their choice, and provides the infrastructure needed for national visibility and a professional exhibition of their new work in the New York area. The Uppsala International Short Film Festival is right now open for submissions to the competition programmes of its 30th edition. Short films of all genres, excluding advertising and propaganda films, with a running time of no more than 40 minutes are accepted for consideration. The Uppsala International Short Film Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary 24-30 October 2011. During seven days more than 130 screenings, lectures, seminars and meetings are arranged.
