The Call for Entries for the 2013 PLURAL+ Video Festival has recently been announced. PLURAL+ is a youth-produced video festival which encourages young people to explore themes of migration, diversity and social inclusion, and to share their creative vision with a global audience. It is a joint initiative between the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the International Organization for Migration, with a network of over 50 partner organizations, who support the creative efforts of young people and distribute their videos worldwide. Since 2009 over 600 entries from 72 countries have participated. Winning videos have been screened in dozens of festivals, cinemas and broadcasts on television networks throughout the world. The Call for Entries is On!PLURAL+ recognizes youth as powerful agents of social change, and supports cooperative efforts to reduce tension in a world often characterized by conflict and division.

Design Museum opens the call for entries for this year’s Designers in Residence. The annual exhibition, that celebrates new and emerging design talent, will open 4 September and feature the designers selected by our distinguished panel from this open call. Now in its sixth year, the residency demonstrates the museum’s commitment to showcasing and supporting the next generation of design talent. The residency is open to all designers who have graduated from Higher Education within the last five years (in the academic year 2008/9 or more recently) and who have been working professionally (either paid or voluntarily) in some form of design practice for a minimum of one year. The selected designers are given a bursary to create new work in response to the brief. Now in its 49th year, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition provides a global showcase of the very best nature photography. Celebrating its 10th Anniversary the Japanese Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) is hosting an international competition called LIFE by MEDIA. In this public competition the organizers call for proposals exploring possible future ways of life and lifestyles that, with such concepts as “shared”, “nomadic” or “mobile”, keep changing in recent years. This competition is open to all ages and nationalities regardless of career or background. A single prize of 1,000,000 Yen (more than 8300 Euro) will be awarded to the best proposal. An exhibition is also scheduled as a part of the YCAM 10th Anniversary Program.

The 7th International Amadeus Choral Composition Contest Contemp-Coralia 2013 has opened for entries from choral composers and students of all nationalities, under no limit of age. The contest is one of the activities of the Contemp-Coralia project, which aims to promote and dynamize contemporary music and musicians inside and outside the Extremadura region. Entries are being accepted in different categories. Four main prizes and a special prize will be awarded in 2013.

The Astronomy Photographer of the Year Competition 2013 is now open! In this annual photography competition, the best astronomy photographers get recognition for their photos of Earth, our solar system and deep space. There is a special competition category for entrants under the age of 16. The Overall winner in the Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2013 competition will win £1500. Prizes will also be given to competition category winners, runner-ups and highly commented entries. There are three special prizes as well.

The 2nd Annual Eco Arts Awards Competition is slowly coming to a close, but there is still more time left to enter. Eco Arts Awards is a multidisciplinary creative competition related to ecology. It is being held second time in a row and everyone’s invited to enter. The Competition recently got a deadline extension until 31 January 2013, so entries are still being accepted in four creative categories: Fine Art, Songwriting, Literature and Repurposed Materials in Art & Design. The primary criteria to win in any of these categories is based on strong thematic content around the artists interpretation of ecology.

The 6th International Animation Festival Fest Anča has recently opened its call for entry! Short animated films and animated music videos can now be submitted from professional filmmakers and students. The Festival’s program includes three international competitions. The Festival has been created to show contemporary, progressive animated films to commemorate the best of the genre’s history. The long-term vision is to approximate well-known international festivals, filling an empty space in this field of art in Slovakia. Fest Anča 2013 will take place in Žilina from 27th to 30th June, 2013.
