Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has launched its third annual award competition, themed “Creating the Future”. The Award appeals to all talented photographers across the globe, and also nurtures United Arab Emirates talent, which will in turn attract international art and cultural attention, highlighting how Dubai is fast developing into one of the most artistically conscious and established cities in the world. The total prize fund of the 2013-2014 HIPA competition is $389,000, from which $120,000 are reserved for the grand winner! Two special awards will also be announced.

Blank Space, an online platform for architecture, is launching the world’s first architecture storytelling competition: “Fairy Tales” and challenging participants to develop visionary architecture proposals that take fun seriously and are audacious enough to ignite imaginations. Fairy Tales is an open, international, ideas competition that challenges creatives from all professional realms to develop narrative-based design proposals. It offers three (3) main awards – $1250 for the 1st place – and up to ten (10) honorable mentions. The proposals should combine text-based architectural fairy tales with innovative graphic representations, and in doing so, seek to unlock the power of architecture by improving the way that it is shared, digested, and communicated.
