The renowned Dutch and Finnish art foundations Tupajumi and HeavyMerryFinland have recently launched a new crowd founded award – The TFHMF Award 2014 – with the intention to promote (inter)national artists worldwide at key locations within local art scenes. The TFHMF Award 2014 is an international award for the very best in contemporary art and the competition is open for all artists. Entered artworks should be original, contemporary and challenging. In 2014, the organizers will present five top artists in a group exhibition at the popular Swedish Supermarket art fair. One of them will win the TFHMF Award, including prize money raised by the visitors of the art fair.

The 9th International Biennial of Drawing Pilsen 2014 is now open for applications and monochrome drawings, created after 2010. In this unique biannual competition, the city of Pilsen, Czech Republic selects the best monochrome drawings with a size of 100×70 cm and announces several awards. International Biennial of Drawing Pilsen (Bienále Plzeň) is open to all drawing artists around the world, that work in the specific competition category. A maximum of five (5) works per artist can be submitted, with each drawing judged individually. Sets of drawings are accepted only when drawings put together make maximum size 100 X 70 cm.

The organizers of Fest Anča International animation festival have opened the Call for Entry for 2014, for the festival’s seventh edition, scheduled for 18th through 22nd June 2014. Animated films made after 1 January 2012 no longer than 30 minutes, from any part of the world are eligible for submission. VNB has opened submissions for FotoFilmic’14, its second annual global juried film photography competition, dedicated to emerging film photographers. Founded in 2012, FotoFilmic is seeking for film photography works with the intention to open wide the publication doors of contemporary film photography to anyone. FotoFilmic’14, the 2nd international juried exhibition of contemporary film photography will feature 30 final winners and prints, from a shortlist of 90 photographers – selected in the first part of the competition. The exhibition, juried by an international panel of famed film photographers and established photography artists, features 3 Cash Prizes (1st, 2nd and 3rd Places), 2 Honorable Mentions (4th and 5th Places) and 1 Exhibition Catalog publication.

The 19th Voies Off Festival has recently opened applications for 2014, inviting all amateur or professional photographers, artists, associations, collectives, groups, galleries, agencies, or schools… using photography as their medium, to submit works. Voies Off offers an alternative approach to emerging contemporary photography, its particularities, its evolutions, and its areas of resistance. The 2014 Voies Off Festival is open for entries in two competitions – one for the 2014 Voies Off Prize (2,500 Euro) and one for the 2014 sAif discovery Award (2,000 Euro).

Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) 2014 is now open for entries – short films of up to 30 minutes – from filmmakers around the world, who are driving the genre of short film forward through inspirational and innovative works. The Video Community is inviting students of art colleges and academies (institutions of higher education) or graduates of such institutions to enter their second annual international competition. The Competition is being held within the framework of the International Video Art Review THE 02. The review consists of two (2) main parts, a special show of video works by invited artists and a competition show of video works that have been admitted to the final of the aforementioned competition. An appointed jury will award first prize for the best video; however, it is a competition without financial rewards. The Video Community is a new organization, established in 2012, for artists, curators and critics involved in video art. The aim is to create a site which will constitute a virtual space for presenting videos made by artists from all over the world, even the most exotic and culturally distant corners of the globe.

On its 50th anniversary in 2014, the 24th Biennial of Design in Ljubljana reinvents itself and launches an ambitious call for applications. This edition of Bienale oblikovanja (BIO) builds on the event’s tradition and history, advancing into an experimental, collaborative territory. In the lead-up to BIO 50, 12 multidisciplinary teams will engage designers and practitioners from all fields, coming together to tackle a wide range of topics with local and global resonance. The outcomes of this collaborative process by each team will be appraised by an international jury and presented at the Biennial of Design in an exhibition and publication. This BIO breaks with the traditional system of awards, choosing instead to award collaboration, its process and outcomes. Recognizing the idea that design is a discipline that permeates all layers of contemporary life, BIO launches an unprecedented effort to engage designers and agents from Slovenia and abroad in a collaborative approach that will address themes that affect everyday life.
