Pro Arte Foundation and St. Petersburg Museum of Bread, with the support of St. Petersburg Committee for Culture, are pleased to announce the International Museum Poster Competition, as part of the St. Petersburg Biennale of Museum Design. The Competition is a unique opportunity for young designers to be part of an exhibition of posters to be held from 14th November through 14th December, 2014, in the Museum of Bread (St. Petersburg, Russia) and to win a prize – a trip to St Petersburg to see its greatest museums and architectural monuments. The topics of the competition are linked to the St. Petersburg Museum of Bread – Russia’s unique museum dedicated to the history of bread and bread-baking. The Museum started in 1988 as a project of the city’s Bread-Baking Facility; its collection numbers over 16000 items.

Kunstwerk Carlshütte has opened the 2015 call for applications for NordArt, one of the largest juried exhibition of contemporary art in Europe. The NordArt juried exhibition represents all facets of visual arts and annually selects some 250 selected artists from all over the world. To support the art and culture scene, each year one artist is awarded the NordArt-Prize, worth 10,000 Euro! Three artists will also be selected for the Public Choice Award, worth three times 1,000 Euro. The NortArt 2015 exhibition is scheduled for 6th June through 4th October, 2015 at the old foundry building in the Carlshütte (22,000 sqm), ACO Wagenremise (400 sqm), a 80,000 square metre sculpture park, as well as public spaces in the town of Büdelsdorf, Germany.

The Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (CCI-IFF) has opened the 2015 Call for Entries and calling for independent films from around the world. The Festival includes action/adventure, animation, comics-oriented, documentary, horror/suspense, humor, and science fiction/fantasy short and long films, features prizes and trophies and is judged by a panel of film industry luminaries. To denounce the situation of millions of people in the World, Médicos del Mundo presents the 18th edition of the Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award. Adult amateur and professional photographers of any nationality are eligible to enter work (of up to 10 photographs) related to any of the following themes: humanitarian action, international cooperation and social exclusion – human rights violations, armed conflicts, natural disasters, refugee and immigrant populations, socially excluded groups, etc. – and/or to efforts aimed at building a fairer, more egalitarian world. The winner of the First Prize of the 18th Luis Valtueña Humanitarian Photography Award will receive a grant worth 6,000 Euro to develop a photo project related to the work of Médicos del Mundo.

CLUE (Community Lighting for the Urban Environment) is a new international competition open to all lighting applications and spaces. CLU Foundation has created CLUE to encourage and challenge young designers such as emerging Professionals with less than 5 years experience and students – to develop innovative lighting concepts for interior and exterior spaces and to cultivate inspiring ideas. The first prize is $5,000, with a special budget for a Travel Stipend to send 2 winners to attend Light Fair International (LFI) – to be held in New York City, 3rd-7th May, 2015 – in the amount of $2,000 each.

The Philadelphia Center for Architecture’s Ed Bacon Memorial Committee has opened pre-registration for the Better Philadelphia Challenge: The 2015 Ed Bacon Student Design Competition. The Ed Bacon competition is an annual international student design competition focusing on an urban design challenge in Philadelphia that has broad implications for cities around the globe. The first prize for the Better Philadelphia Challenge is $5,000.

The 6th Jump The Gap International Design Contest is about to open registration soon, to celebrate yet another year of fresh designs by young designers or architects and design or architecture students. Jumpthegap is an International Design Contest promoted by Roca with the collaboration of BCD Barcelona Design Centre that is looking for new, innovative and sustainable concepts for the bathroom space. Two winning projects will be chosen, and will receive a prize of 4,000 Euro each, one in the professional category and one in the student category, during the award ceremony in October 2015 at the Roca Madrid Gallery. One Special Sustainability Prize will be chosen as well, among the 30 preselected and will receive 1000 Euro.

The World Habitat Awards, a competition that recognizes innovative, sustainable and scalable solutions to key housing challenges facing communities around the world, has opened application for 2015. The host – Building and Social Housing Foundation (BSHF), invites innovative housing projects to apply for the 2015/16 cycle for the chance to gain recognition for their work. Like any previous year, for the 2015/16 World Habitat Awards an award of £10,000 will be presented to each of the two winners. Winners are presented at the World Urban Forum (even years) and UN-Habitat Governing Council (odd years).

La Guarimba International Film Festival has recently opened the Call for Entries for 2015 and seeking for fiction, animation and documentary films for its competitive programs. The third edition of the La Guarimba Film Festival is open for films with a minimum length of 30 minutes, of any nationality and language, produced after 1st January 2013. Twenty (20) films of Short Film category, ten (10) Documentaries, fifteen (15) Animation and Stop Motion films will be selected to be screened at the festival and will enter its competition. The Grand Prize for each of the main competition categories – except Documentary – is 1,000 Euro and a Trophy. Trophies will also be given out for the many other Awards.

D&AD is partnering with Getty Images to create a global photography award for professionals and freelancers in the first three years of their careers. Through the Next Photographer Award, new photographers will have the chance to win mentorship from a wide portfolio of acclaimed photographers, agents and advertising agencies, offering a considerable launchpad for a young creative looking for that big break. Launching 15 September, the Next Photographer Award is the second in the D&AD Next series, following the launch of the Next Director Award in partnership with YouTube earlier this year. The Next series aims to bridge the gap between the D&AD Professional Awards and New Blood programme by identifying and showcasing new talent in the initial stages of their careers.
