Population Connection, as part of its Population Education program, is accepting entries in the World of 7 Billion Student Video Contest 2016-2017. All students worldwide (grade 6-12, or the international equivalent) are invited to create a short video – up to 60 seconds – about human population growth that highlights one of the following global challenges: Climate Change, Ocean Health, or Rapid Urbanization. A total of $7,500 will be awarded in separate category prizes. The first place prize for each category is either $1,000 or $500, depending on the grade.

The Pure Talents Contest by imm cologne – the international interiors show is one of the best known international competitions for young designers in the field of interior design. Up to 20 new works of design students and young designers from around the world will be featured in an exhibition during the tradeshow imm cologne 2017 (16th–22nd January 2017). Furthermore prize moneys of 6,000 Euro in total can be won. The competition is open to students and graduates that passed their exams not longer than three years ago. From all entries a selection of up to 20 new works from around the world, will be selected and featured in a special exhibition during imm cologne.

Alexia Foundation has recently scheduled the competition for its 2017 Grant cycle, to once again support professional and student photographers around the world. The Foundation offers production grants to students and professional photographers to give them the financial ability to produce substantial stories that drive change in the effort to make the world a better place. Students also get scholarship opportunities. The Professional Grant Winner will receive $20,000 (US) to produce his or her proposed project. Several different grants will be given out as part of the Student Awards to both undergraduate and graduate students.

The 3rd edition of the CLUE (Community Lighting for the Urban Environment) International Lighting Design Competition, themed “One for light, light for all” is now open for registration. New and emerging members of the industry are invited to reflect on the possibilities for extending the personalization of private spaces to the personalization of public spaces. Prizes will be awarded on merit by an international jury composed of professionals in the fields of design and urban planning. The total prize fund is $8,500, of which $5,000 are reserved for the 1st Prize winning project.

The Nikon Small World In Motion 2016 Video Competition has recently opened for entries, coming from all parts of the world. This competition is an extension to the Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition and dedicated strictly to movie or digital time-lapse photography taken through the microscope. It is held annually since 2011. Winners will be awarded one of three prizes, sorted according to rank in the competition. First prize is $3,000 toward the purchase of Nikon equipment.

FEP is once again aiming to promote the photographic profession, to raise the level of professional standards and to give just recognition to those who work in this sector according to the highest levels of quality and professionalism. The Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center, Budapest calls for entries for a photo and video competition organized on the occasion of the Budapest Water Summit, which will take place between 28–30 November 2016. The call is open for photographs and videos that present the fundamental importance of this essential material for our planet, for nature, for society as a whole or the individuals themselves; depict its different qualities, unique nature, or the way it serves as a living space and a fundamental element of our bodies, or the way it appears in a variety of forms from a drop of water to the sea. The entries may also include the mythical, fairytale connotations of water as well. Winners will be selected in both the Photo and Video categories. The main prize is a LEICA D-LUX camera, awarded to the 1st place winning entry in each of the two categories. 2nd and 3rd place winning entries will also be selected.
