Now in its 17th year, the Shriekfest Horror/SciFi Film Festival is calling for entries for 2017 from filmmakers around the world. Shriekfest is the Los Angeles’ Premier horror film event, presenting an exciting program of films each fall with beautiful Los Angeles as its backdrop. Both established and emerging filmmakers gain media exposure, connect with the region’s diverse audiences, and participate in an acclaimed event attended by industry professionals as well as horror and scifi fans. Prizes are awarded to the winning filmmaker in each of the five (5) competition categories.

The intent of this competition is to foster new conceptual ideas about how to better handle the growing density of unplanned cities. Mittelmoda is coming back for the 24th year and is calling out for the 2017 edition of the most international fashion design contest ever. The competition is open to students in their last year at college (undergraduate and post-graduate level) who will graduate (or get a Diploma) in 2017 as fashion designers, as well as young fashion designers either graduates of Fashion Colleges or in their early career – in house or self-employed. Selected candidates will be invited to take part in the finals and will be asked to create their collections (Outfits + Accessories) to be shown on Mittelmoda’s catwalk in a collective fashion show (date and place to be confirmed). The Most Experimental Collection and the Most Creative Collection will be awarded with cash prizes. Several Special Awards will be announced as well.

The call for submissions for the 2017 Voies Off Awards – international photography competition – is now open. For the 22nd year in a row, the Voies Off Awards gives a look on worldwide emerging photography at the heart of the Rencontres d’Arles. Amateurs and professional photographers are invited to send their application. The selected photographers will be part of the Voies Off Festival’s Screening Nights Program, and the winner photographers will get an Award of 2,500 to 5,000 Euro.

MonoVisions – Black & White Photography Magazine, launches the first edition of its international photography awards and currently accepts entries for 2017. The call is call for photographers using black and white medium to express their visual language. FOTOFILMIC17 – the 5th edition of the FotoFilmic International Traveling Exhibition Competition, is open for submissions. It is the world’s only global scale call for contemporary material photography presenting a unique and challenging worldview of 21st century’s photographic arts rooted in analog, historical and film-based practices. This year, the best work will be awarded with the $1,500 Buschlen Mowatt Nichol Foundation 1st Place Award. The $500 BEAU Photo Award is reserved for the second best work. Additional prizes will also be awarded to the 3rd, 4th and 5th best entries.

The Poster for Tomorrow 2017 poster design competition was recently announced and themed “Freedom Of Movement“, with the intention to refocus the debate around immigration to what lies at its heart: people. The competition is open for previously unpublished poster designs in the portrait (vertical) format and designers are encouraged to express themselves freely in their mother tongue. The best 100 posters will become part of a worldwide exhibition, scheduled to open on 10th December 2017.

Switzerland’s Festival Images Vevey has recently opened the registration for 2017/2018, for its biannual international photography competition — the Grand Prix Images Vevey. Open to all artists and professional and student photographers, the competition grants the winner the indivisible sum of 40,000 CHF (approx. 37,000 Euro) for the development, achievement and presentation of a project at the following Festival Images. Festival Images Vevey awards a separate award to support the creation of a book project that showcases an optimal and original balance between publication format and photographic content — the Images Vevey Book Award, which includes a 10,000 CHF (approx. 9,000 Euro) grant. It provides a financial contribution that seeks to encourage artists to take risks and to innovate in order for them to develop a suitable and sophisticated publication format for their photography project.

Eleven Magazine recently launched the first edition of Biomimicry – an architecture and design competition focused on nature-inspired innovation. The call is open for nature-inspired designs in the fields of Architecture, Design, Technology and Fashion that showcase innovation and biomimicry practices. The winning project will be awarded with £2,000 and will become part of Eleven’s Hall of Fame. Additionally, one Runner Up project will be awarded with £400, six (6) Honourable Mentions will be selected and a People’s Choice Award will be announced. All awarded teams will be published in Eleven Magazine and Eleven’s media partners.
