The residents of Marou, Fiji and the Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI) invite you to design a permanent destination artwork that will supply clean and reliable electricity and drinking water to the coastal village’s 67 households, support tourism, and help to build a sustainable future for generations. Two winning teams will each be provided with a stipend of $100,000 USD to advance their design proposal and build a functioning prototype of their idea in Fiji. A publication, exhibitions held in partnership with the Fiji Arts Council, and a program of community engagement events will communicate the innovative outcomes throughout Fiji and around the world, inspiring the public about the beauty and wealth of possibilities of a world beyond carbon while demonstrating creative adaptations to a rapidly shifting climate.

The fourth Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI) international design competition has recently been announced and entries are now being accepted for 2016. LAGI 2016 invites creatives, scientists, engineers, and others from around the world to submit ideas — individually or as interdisciplinary teams — for large-scale and site-specific public art installations that generate carbon-neutral electricity and/or drinking water for the City of Santa Monica, California. There is a cash prize of $15,000 for the 1st Place winner and $4,000 for the 2nd Place winner.

The Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI), Refshaleøen Holding, and the IT University of Copenhagen have launched the third edition of this groundbreaking design competition with $20,000 in prize money. LAGI 2014 CPH invites you to submit your idea for large-scale public art that generates utility-scale clean electricity for the city of Copenhagen. The competition will culminate into a beautiful publication featuring the top 50 design solutions, an exhibition in Copenhagen at the Design Society in partnership with the Danish Design Centre in October of 2014, and the possibility of renewable energy sculptures built around Denmark.

The 2012 Land Art Generator Initiative, in partnership with New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, calls on artists and designers to submit proposals for a pragmatic art installation for Freshkills Park, Staten Island, New York City. Designers, artists, engineers, architects, landscape architects, university students, urban planners, scientists and anyone who believes that the world can be powered beautifully and sustainably is invited to enter. The competition is free to enter.
