The focus for Architecture Naturally is on an important relationship – that which exists between architecture, and the natural world. Often seen as being in conflict, this relationship is high on the political and social agenda, reflecting changing attitudes toward sustainability, and our place in relation to the natural world. We are looking for young photographers who can capture our increasing desire for harmony between the spatial, social and environmental aspects of our lives. We are looking for striking images that reflect how the built environment and nature can shape, inspire and benefit each other in positive, sustainable ways. IntroductionAt ADP, we believe this relationship can produce creative and dynamic design solutions, incorporating the latest advances in technology with bold new aesthetics that won’t cost the Earth. First prize this year, therefore, will go to the aspiring photographer who can capture the positive balance that can be achieved between architecture and Nature, with both informing and supporting the other.

Venus febriculosa is starting a new book cover contest. After deliberations that included among others Joyce’s Ulysses, Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, Eliot’s The Wasteland, Bataille’s The Story of the Eye and of course Nabokov’s The Original of Laura, we chose semiotician Umberto Eco’s 1980 postmodern novel The Name of the Rose. Hopefully this will prove rich soil for some wonderful and interesting covers. We received 155 submissions for our Lolita cover contest and we’re hoping to double that number so help get the word out. This time there will be only one submission per entrant. ObjectiveThe purpose of the contest is to design a hypothetical book cover for UMBERTO ECO’s novel THE NAME OF THE ROSE. This is an ideas competition only: as of this writing there are no plans for the winner’s work to be featured on a forthcoming edition of the novel.

The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival is pleased to announce its first-ever poster contest, to be produced for the 13th annual festival occurring April 8-11, 2010 in Downtown Durham North Carolina. One design will be chosen to be printed in a limited edition run to be sold at the festival. The winning designer will receive a special “Artist” Priority Pass (a $500 value) for the 2010 festival as well as hotel accommodations for the duration of the festival. The winning poster design will be chosen by a jury comprised of Full Frame staff and special jurors.
