Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Competitions and Bristol City Council are delighted to announce the launch of an international competition to design a new arena for Bristol. The Bristol Arena project is a large indoor multipurpose arena, to open in the summer of 2017 on the former diesel depot site close to Temple Meads railway station in central Bristol, United Kingdom. Multi-disciplinary teams will have the opportunity to design the 12,000 capacity entertainment arena. The successful experienced design team will have architectural, structural and building engineering capabilities as well as experience within the performance venue field and significant knowledge of the creation and development of urban spaces.

The British Life Photography Awards is a brand new photographic competition for photographers around the world to seek and capture the essence and spirit of British life. The Competition includes ten (10) separate categories documenting real life through original, illuminating, thought provoking, humorous and poignant imagery. With an overall prize fund worth over £10,000, winners and commended entrants will have their work displayed in a national touring exhibition and book published by ilex Press. Covering everything from: street life, rural life, portraiture and a special award for the best documentary feature, the awards celebrate British life and culture, whilst also highlighting the relevance and importance of photography to raise awareness and inform. Thus, submitted entries must have been taken in the United Kingdom of Great Britain Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.

The SXSW Festival has re-branded its Interactive Awards competition to SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards and is currently accepting interactive work for 2015. With this competition, SXSW wants to honor the best and latest advancements in the digital industry, in 2014 and the people who made them happen. The Awards competition includes fourteen (14) competition awards and four (4) Special Honors awards. The SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards are all about the newest / freshest / most innovative trends, products and developments in the new media industry. All categories are open exclusively to developments or redesigns accomplished in the 2014 calendar year.

The 35th Mini Print International of Cadaqués, 2015 international printmaking exhibition competition has opened for entries from artists around the world. All printing techniques and tendencies are acceptable and each participating artist should submit four prints, not be bigger than 10x10cm. Accepted works – six (6) per category – will be exhibited in Cadaqués, Spain, in the Galerie L’Etangd’Art in Bages, France, and in other places, yet to be determined. The exhibition in Cadaqués will last around 90 days and will be open to the public daily from 18.00 to 21.30 h, from end of June to 30th September continuously. Each awarded artist will be invited to have a one-person show of his/her small format prints within the next Mini Print International in the gallery in Cadaqués, during the summer season.

ASCER, the Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association is accepting projects in the 2014 Tile of Spain Awards of Architecture and Interior Design competition, by professionals in Spain and worldwide. The Competition aims to improve awareness and understanding of ceramic tiles made in Spain amongst architects and interior designers and promote their use by these professionals. A total of 34,000 Euro will be awarded in two competition categories – Architecture and Interior design – to the author or authors of the best projects. Two special mentions will be announced in either category as well.

The Association of Illustrators (AOI) in partnership with London Transport Museum, has opened submissions for The Prize for Illustration 2015 competition, themed: London Places and Spaces. The competition is open to illustrators and students of illustration throughout the world. A total of £3750 will be awarded in three levels and the top 100 entries will be displayed in an exhibition at London Transport Museum, open from May until August 2015. The winning image will be awarded with £2000 and displayed on a London Transport Museum poster. The aim of The Prize for Illustration 2015 competition is to attract artwork for display that is colourful, inspiring and celebrates a vibrant, multi-layered London. Entrants are invited to visually capture an iconic or lesser known place in a single image. The organizers want to see the quiet and contemplative to the crowded and loud, the imaginary or real to the past or present.

The 2015 Nikon Small World International Photomicrography and Video Competition has opened for entries, to once again showcase the beauty and complexity of life as seen through the light microscope. Small World 2015 is the 41st annual competition that Nikon is hosting to recognize astonishing photos and videos of microscopic worlds. Open to anyone with an interest in photography and movies taken through the microscope, the competition will award over twenty (20) prizes and exhibit the prize-winning photography work at numerous museums and science centers throughout the United States and Canada.

The 14th Annual Andreu World International Design Contest has opened for entries from young and professional designers around the world. The challenge, as usual, is to design an item of furniture (seat or table) that integrated specifications, outlined by Andreu World. The prize fund for 2014 is 4,000 Euro, of which 3,000 Euro are reserved for the 1st Place winner. The jury will also award up to a maximum of four (4), non-monetary, special mentions. The awards ceremony will be held on December 2014 at the Andreu World installments.

The Global Schindler Award (GSA) has recently opened its registration for the 2015 competition, inviting architecture students to participate. With US $150,000 in prizes, the GSA enables students from around the world to share their ideas for creating open and inclusive urban environments, using the key competition theme of mobility. The competition concept – Designing the City as a Resource – will aid in the creation of specific proposals for a given site in Shenzhen, part of the Pearl River Delta in China. The competition is an excellent opportunity for young architects to have their designs judged by an international jury of renowned experts from a diverse range of fields, including Prof. Phillip Rode of LSE Cities, Prof. Kongjian Yu of Turenscape, Prof. Farshid Moussavi of Harvard University, Mr. Yan Meng, of Urbanus, Mr. Jackie Han, president of Schindler Elevator, China and more. The Global Schindler Award also gives students a chance to contribute to facing some of the most important challenges shared by societies around the world: from the provision of public space and environmental concerns to the better integration of economy, politics and the built environment.
