The call for entries for 2017 is now open for the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards – Europe’s most prestigious prize in the heritage field. Every year, the most outstanding heritage achievements from all over Europe are honored. The Prize recognizes the excellence and dedication by architects, craftsmen, cultural heritage experts, volunteers, schools, local communities, heritage owners and the media. It stimulates creativity and innovation, through the power of example. In 2017, the Awards will be given to up to 30 remarkable heritage projects and initiatives in four categories. Up to seven will be selected as Grand Prix winners and receive 10,000 Euro each. One will get the Public Choice Award.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year calls on photographers worldwide to put nature in the frame. The adult Wildlife Photographer of the Year will be awarded with £10,000, trophy and personalized certificate. WorldNomads is currently accepting applications for its 2016 Travel Film Scholarship competition, which provides aspiring filmmakers a chance to go on assignment in Vietnam. The organizers are challenging you to make a 3-minute film about an inspirational travel story and submit it together with an application form. Originality, filmmaking skills, storytelling, visual appeal and work on character are the key elements which the judges will evaluate. The main prize in this competition is a 10-day all-expenses-paid trip in Vietnam — Hanoi more specifically — to work with professional travel filmmaker Brian Raps and then attend a post-production workshop in Hanoi to commence your editing work. The call for entries for the 2017 La Guarimba International Film Festival is now open to filmmakers around the world. La Guarimba International Film Festival is seeking for Fiction, Animation, Documentary films and Music Videos on all themes and of any nationality and language. The selection for 2017 will include 20 films of the Short Film category, 10 Documentaries, 15 Animation films and 5 Music Videos, which will be selected for screening at the festival and will be entered in the Festival’s competition. The Nikon Small World 2017 competition is now open for entry to anyone with an interest in photography through the microscope. The subject matter is unrestricted and any type of light microscopy technique is acceptable, including phase contrast, polarized light, fluorescence, interference contrast, darkfield, confocal, deconvolution, and mixed techniques. Winners will receive one of 20 prizes, sorted according to rank in the competition. First prize is $3,000 toward the purchase of Nikon equipment.

The Art World is an International Art Competition where fine artists, photographers, digital artists, graphic designers and sculptors compete for a chance to be exhibited in New York City for an entire week. Participants are invited to submit work that depicts a rebellious view of tradition, customs, religion and politics, as well as share their visual expression and subjective interpretation. A winner in each category will get the opportunity to exhibit their work in the group art show at the Unarthodox Gallery in Chelsea, New York City for an entire week in May 2017. All other participants’ artwork will be displayed in a large projection during the opening ceremony.

Design writer, Steve Heller and Graphic designer, Mirko Ilić are working on a new book “Design Exposed” and have an open call for submissions from all around the world. This is the first book to undress design and show how the body in all its forms is used realistically, aesthetically, yes, and pruriently. The call is open for all printed media, for virtually any or editorial purpose. The book, Design Exposed (working title only), is scheduled for publishing in Winter/Spring 2017-18. The hosts are also looking to organize a traveling exhibition of the original prints to both promote the book, work and designers that are featured in the book.

Interaction Design Association (IxDA) has recently opened submissions for its 2017 Interaction Awards Competition, to celebrate design thought leadership and innovation around the globe, for the fifth time. Each year, award recipients comprise a showcase demonstrating how interaction design impacts and improves human lives. In 2017, winners will be celebrated and announced at Interaction17 conference held in New York City 4-8 February, 2017. Finalist will have the opportunity to display and discuss their project to the entire IxDA community.
