The Winter Cycling Federation and the Russian cycling advocacy project Let’s bike it! announce a Logo and Identity Design Contest for the 6th international Winter Cycling Congress, taking place in Moscow, in February 2018. Both professionals and amateur designers are encouraged to take part and there are no restrictions on age or country of origin. The winner will be be defined by the international jury and awarded 1,000 Euro.

The Saint George Vadon Association announces the 4th TransNatura International Nature Photo Contest and opens application for 2017. TransNatura is seeking for photographs of natural habitats, made without disturbing the wildlife. On the photos only wild animals can be included and pictures taken of captive animals are not eligible. The organizes will award a total of 3,400 Euro to a Grand Prize winner and three category winners in each competition category. The Grand Prize — The TransNatura Award — includes 1,000 Euro. The award-winning pictures and other selected works will be exhibited on the 23rd of September 2016.

iMapp Bucharest Videomapping Competition — one of the biggest videomapping events in the world — is still calling for entries, for 2017. The organizers are inviting international artists to create 4 minute and 30 second long videomapped animations to the theme of “Above and Beyond” adapted to the façade of Palace of Parliament, Bucharest, Romania using and enhancing the architecture, and accompanied by music. The animations will be projected on 16th September 2017, in front of an international jury and a live audience. Each of the six chosen participants will receive 12,000 Euro! A Jury and an Audience award of 5,000 Euro each, will also be awarded.

Now in its fifth year, The Federation of European Photographers’ photography competition for young photographers — FEP Emerging Talent Award — is open for entries for 2018. The FEP – FETA award aims to encourage and recognize the high standard of photographic image making, taking place in Europe by final year students and newly qualified young photographers. The winner of “The Emerging Talent Award” will receive a certificate during the FETA Award Ceremony. All those who received awards will be invited to collect their prize and FEP may contribute to their travel expenses. The winner and the students who will get merits will also win a free submission for the QEP qualification when the criteria of a QEP application is otherwise met (i.e. a membership in a national FEP member association). At the discretion of the organization concerned, a one year free membership may be offered to Merit award winners and the overall winner.

The Hydrogen Education Foundation (HEF) has announced and opened its international student design contest for 2017. Hydrogen Student Design Contest 2017 challenges student teams from around the world to “Design a Power-to-Gas System“, a system that uses electricity to produce hydrogen for cross market uses, including energy storage, ancillary services, and transportation fuel. The teams will choose a site in their area, engage their local electric and gas utility, coordinate with regulatory bodies and safety experts, and create educational materials, including a short video. The best project will be awarded with prizes, which are yet to be announced for the competition for 2017.

The Kokuyo Design Awards competition has recently open for entries for 2017, to once again discover and recognize functional product designs from around the world. The competition theme for 2017 is “New Story” and this time the organizers are looking for designs that pave the way to new experiences, open new doors and go on to establish new genres. The best entry will be awarded with a Grand Prix of 2,000,000 Japanese yen — more than 16,000 Euro! Three Merit awards of 500,000 Japanese yen each, will also be announced. Special prizes may also be awarded.

The Union of Moscow Architects and Nizhny Novgorod Department of the Union of Architects of Russia are hosting an open architectural and urban competition called: The Spit in Nizhny Novgorod. The Competition is organized in order to get in Nizhny Novgorod, on the territory limited by the Samarkandskaya and Betancourt Streets and the Volga and Oka rivers embankments, some conceptual town-planning proposals for creating a city recreation center with a developed recreational component and filled with social, cultural and sports functions by means of an equitable creative contest. The three (3) best designs will be awarded with monetary prizes in a total of 600,000 Rubles — of which 300,000 Rubles are reserved for the design awarded with the 1st Prize.

The city of Lausanne in Switzerland is hosting an international student design competition on the topic of “Architecture and Water“. As the host of the founding UIA (International Union of Architects) Congress in 1948, the city of Lausanne has offered to host the 28th UIA Congress in 2023. The competition is created for the design of a Swiss Room, which should showcase Lausanne’s candidature to organize the 28th UIA Congress. The winner or winning team will have the opportunity to create the Swiss Room on site, in Seoul, in September 2017, during UIA Congress 2017, unless Lausanne should decide to withdraw its candidature prior to this date. The organizing committee will cover all costs related to the Swiss Room construction.

The Department of Economic Development (DOED) of the Taipei City Government has opened the 2017 Taipei International Design Award (TIDA) competition for registration. This year sees the 10th anniversary of the Taipei International Design Award, Taipei City Government extends its invitation to designers from all over the world to join in and vie for the highest honor. The 2017 Taipei International Design Award has a total prize fund of more than $3,000,000 (TWD), that’s more than $95,000 (USD)!

The Siena Art Institute Onlus, a non-profit school and association devoted to the exploration of the social function of art, announces a contest for the design and creation of the visual identity of the MapMyArt contemporary art platform. Students age 18-35 of any nationality from any discipline who are enrolled in a public or private school can participate. The student who designs the prize-winning logo will receive full tuition (for a value of 8,600 Euro) for a semester-long program of study at the Siena Art Institute.
