L’Officina and Studio Tommaseo, together with the Trieste Contemporanea Committee have launched the third (2018) edition of the Squeeze It contest, open to all young Europeans under the age of 30. The competition is dedicated to Franco Jesurun, a visionary man of culture, that was a theatre actor and a gallerist, founder of the three cultural organizations in Trieste that promote the competition. Studio Tommaseo established this biennial competition in 2014, as part of the activities celebrating the Studio’s 40th anniversary. The 2018 winner of the Franco Jesurun Award, decided on the stage of the final evening of the 15th of December, 2018, will work with guest director Mirosław Bałka at a production of a video work from the action presented.

Fairy Tales is open to all, and invites architects, designers, writers, artists, engineers, illustrators, students and creatives to submit their own unique architectural fairy tales. A successful entry will craft a text narrative, along with 5 images, in the most spectacular way possible. For the last 5 years, the Fairy Tales competition has captured the imagination of designers and architects around the world. Dwie Siostry Publishing House (Wydawnictwo Dwie Siostry) announces the third (2018) edition of CLAIRVOYANTS, its International competition for an illustrated children’s book project. The competition is open to both newcomers and experienced artists and children’s books authors (at least 18 years old) from Poland and abroad, participating individually or in a team. Three prizes are offered: a Main Prize of 2,500 Euro and two honorable mentions, book publication and admission in the post-competition exhibition.

NASA Ames Research Center and National Space Society (NSS) invite students worldwide up to 12th grade (18 years old) to participate in the 2019 edition of the annual Space Settlement Contest. Submissions must relate to orbital settlements. Designs, original research, essays, stories, models, artwork or any other orbital space settlement related materials may be submitted. Settlements may not be on a planet or moon and must be permanent, relatively self-sufficient homes, not temporary work camps. The National Space Society (NSS) invites all 2019 contest participants to attend the NSS 38th annual International Space Development Conference (ISDC) in Arlington, VA, 6-9 June 2019.

Eleven Magazine opens registration for Plastic Worlds – a competition about plastic in our Oceans, and invites creatives and visionaries from all around the world to join in. Participants are asked to think of ways to fight the plastic problem in our waters – from rivers to oceans – and turn a threat into an opportunity. The competition is developed around two themes, each with a specific objective and site typology linked to it. The Winner will be awarded with £2,000 and there will be a Runner-Up award of £400. At least 6 Honorable Mentions will be announced as well.

1854 Media, publisher of British Journal of Photography, together with Magnum Photos, are calling photographers from around the world to enter “Portrait of Humanity”. Portrait of Humanity is a new initiative, aiming to create one of the most far-reaching collaborative photography exhibitions in history. 200 shortlisted images will be featured in the Portrait of Humanity Book. 50 winning images will be exhibited at various locations around the world from September – December 2019. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will share $10,000 in grant awards to create projects that explore their interpretations of humanity.
