The Xposure Independent & Freelance Photojournalist Award (IFPA) is open for entries for 2026.
Xposure’s IFPA recognises outstanding independent and freelance photojournalists across Spot News, Environment and Solutions.
Three winners each receive $5,000 and are invited to exhibit at Xposure in Sharjah, UAE, where their work is presented to an international audience of photographers, editors, industry professionals and the public.
The Xposure Independent & Freelance Photojournalist Award (IFPA) recognises outstanding work that demonstrates journalistic integrity, visual strength and meaningful engagement with contemporary issues.
Photojournalism demands strict ethical standards. Images must present an accurate and honest account of events, without manipulation, alteration, or distortion. Integrity and impartiality are fundamental.
The competition is open to all photojournalists worldwide aged 18 or over, including staff photographers, agency photographers, freelancers and independent photojournalists.
Entrants may submit one 12-image essay per category that addresses urgent, underreported, or impactful global issues.
The IFPA supports photographers working independently or on a freelance basis and gives significant photojournalistic projects greater international visibility.
Through this award, Xposure supports independent photojournalists and amplifies visual storytelling that informs, challenges, and resonates worldwide.
