Gösta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation is organising an open international competition for the design of an extension for the Serlachius Museum Gösta (Joenniemi Manor).
The purpose of the competition is to find for the Serlachius Museum Gösta’s extension an implementation solution which is compatible with its unique cultural environment, architecturally of top quality as well as functional and feasible. The intention is to achieve a balance between the aesthetic, functional, technical and economic targets, while adhering to the principles of sustainable development.
This is an open international design competition open to architects worldwide.
Objective
Design an implementation solution for the Serlachius Museum Gösta’s extension.
The extension will contain facilities for travelling exhibitions, collections, conferences, representation functions and offices as well as a restaurant with auxiliary spaces. It will also contain a new main foyer and ticket sales facilities with auxiliary spaces. The net floor area of the extension will be about 3,000 m2.

Prizes
The total prize sum of €110,000 will be awarded as follows:
- 1st prize €40,000
- 2nd prize €30,000
- 3rd prize €20,000
- and two Purchases, each €10,000
Rules
- This is an open international design competition.
- The participants must be lincensed to practise architect’s profession in their own countries.
- The competition entries shall be prepared either in the Finnish or English language.
How to enter?
Competition entries and scale models must be delivered by 15 p.m. to the address below or verifiably handed over to the post office or other carrier for delivery no later than the due date, in which case the entry must be received at the address below no later than 16 March 2011 and the scale model no later than 30 March 2011.
The package should be marked with the coded pseudonym as well as the text “Design Competition Gösta”.
