Celebrating the Contribution of Refugee Artists in Australia
Now in its third year, this unique Art Prize will showcase the creative talent and social contribution of visual artists from a refugee background.
The entrants’ painting, drawing, photography and mixed media works will reflect and express the theme: Heartlands; the aspirations, hopes and dreams that refugees bring with them to Australia.
Refugees and former refugees who have arrived in Australia since January 1970 are eligible to participate.
The organizers expect innovative original work that has not yet been entered into any previous prize or award.
A total prize pool of over $15,000 in cash and prizes is designed to support artistic output and career aspirations.
- $5000 First Prize (including a solo exhibition and short-term Artist in Residence)
- $3000 Second Prize
- $2000 Third Prize
- $1000 Newly Arrived Refugee Prize (arrived in Australia from 2005)
- $500 for eight Honourable Mention Prizes
The prizes will be awarded on Tuesday, 5 June 2012 at an exhibition at fortyfivedownstairs, Melbourne.
