SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, & Infrastructure focuses on building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation. Key targets include:
- Develop sustainable, resilient, and inclusive infrastructure: Support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access.
- Promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization: Significantly raise industry’s share of employment and gross domestic product by 2030.
- Upgrade all industries and infrastructure for sustainability: Retrofit industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes by 2030.
- Enhance scientific research and upgrade technological capabilities of industrial technologies: Encouraging innovation and substantially increasing the number of research and public and private research and development spending.
- Facilitate sustainable and resilient infrastructure development for developing countries: Enhanced financial, technological and technical support to African countries, least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States.
Why it matters:
A functioning and resilient infrastructure is the foundation of every successful community. Innovation and infrastructure can unleash dynamic and competitive economic forces that generate employment and income. They play a key role in introducing and promoting new technologies, facilitating international trade and enabling the efficient use of resources.
To meet future challenges, our industries and infrastructure must be upgraded. For this, we need to promote innovative sustainable technologies and ensure equal and universal access to information and markets.
The call to action is clear: Invest in clean and resilient infrastructure. It’s the only way to keep workers safe and protect the environment.
The International Compost Awareness Week 2027 is scheduled for 2-8 May 2027.
The ICAW poster is sent to thousands of people across the United States and internationally too.
