The Museum of Architecture and Design is launching an open call for participation in the 26th Biennial of Design, BIO 26 — Common Knowledge, curated by Austrian design curator and cultural producer Thomas Geisler together with assistant curator Aline Lara Rezende. This year the 26th Biennial of Design (BIO), Ljubljana will commission six projects for the biennial through a designathon process—a three-day intensive, hands-on, sprint event in which curious and motivated people, non-designers and designers alike, will collaborate on design challenges. BIO 26 will take on one of the greatest challenges of our time: information. Concerned with the widespread crisis in information, BIO 26 seeks to harvest the best ideas that explore ways to creatively take charge and react to it, as well as to propose experiments and present alternatives to the ways we currently deal with information and knowledge.

The 25th Biennial of Design Ljubljana, Slovenia has been announced and the open call is scheduled for opening on the 12th May 2016. BIO – The Biennial of Design in Ljubljana is is an international platform for new approaches in design, structured as a long-term collaborative process, where teams of designers and multidisciplinary agents develop alternatives to established systems. The Biennial of Design in Ljubljana works as a testing ground, where design is employed as a tool to question and improve our daily life, among different and multidisciplinary design approaches that touch systems, production, services, scientific research, humanistic issues, unexpected conditions for the production of our habitat.

The European Prize for Urban Public Space – a competition organized to recognize and encourage the recovery projects and defense of public space in European cities – is currently accepting entries for the 2014. The award, created in 2000, celebrates its eight edition in 2014. Works that have created, recovered or improved public space within the geographic limits of the Council of Europe in the years 2012 and 2013 are eligible for the Prize. The prize-winning works, the finalists and a selection made by a Jury will be published in the European Archive of Urban Public Space, which brings together and makes available to the public the best projects that have been presented in the competition since its inception and will make part of traveling exhibition of the 2014 Prize.

On its 50th anniversary in 2014, the 24th Biennial of Design in Ljubljana reinvents itself and launches an ambitious call for applications. This edition of Bienale oblikovanja (BIO) builds on the event’s tradition and history, advancing into an experimental, collaborative territory. In the lead-up to BIO 50, 12 multidisciplinary teams will engage designers and practitioners from all fields, coming together to tackle a wide range of topics with local and global resonance. The outcomes of this collaborative process by each team will be appraised by an international jury and presented at the Biennial of Design in an exhibition and publication. This BIO breaks with the traditional system of awards, choosing instead to award collaboration, its process and outcomes. Recognizing the idea that design is a discipline that permeates all layers of contemporary life, BIO launches an unprecedented effort to engage designers and agents from Slovenia and abroad in a collaborative approach that will address themes that affect everyday life.
