The Malaysian Institute of Architects (Northern Chapter) together with the Penang State Government, Penang Municipal Council and the Malaysian Institute of Planners (Northern Branch) is pleased to announce an international design ideas competition for ‘Urban Renewal For Rifle Range, Penang’.
Professional architects, town planners and students of architecture and/or town planning from around the globe are most welcome to participate in this exciting event.
Objective
The main objective of this competition is to get creative ideas and a practical solution to redeveloping an existing housing area in Rifle Range, Penang into a vibrant, sustainable and well-planned residential and commercial area.
The State government hopes that through this exercise, the quality of life of Rifle Range community, in particular, will be significantly improved.
Prizes
- Category 1 (Professional Architects/Planners):
- First Prize – RM 35,000.00 + certificate
- Second Prize – RM 15,000.00 + certificate
- Third Prize – RM 8,000.00 + certificate
- Fourth Prize – RM 5,000 + certificate
- Fifth Prize – RM 5,000 + certificate
- Category 2 (Students):
- First Prize – RM 5,000.00 + certificate
- Second Prize – RM 3,000.00 + certificate
- Third Prize – RM 2,000.00 + certificate
Rules
- Professional architects and town planners from around the globe are most welcome to participate. This competition is also open to students from the school of architecture and/or town planning.

Submit your designs on the official website from 14 June 2010.
Entry fee
- Category 1 (Professional Architects/Planners): RM 350.00 or US $100.00
- Category 2 (Students): RM 50.00 or US $15.00
