KL International Photoawards proudly announces the 2012 Call for Entries as of 1st December 2012. In its 4th year, for 2012 the organizers have added two Open categories to the original Portrait Category, which defined its inception in 2009.
The Kuala Lumpur Photo Awards (KLPA) 2012 is an entry-fee based photography competition open to all levels of photographers from around the world, where all entrants have the opportunity to compete on a level playing field, and judged by experienced professionals in related industries within photography, gallery, media and the arts.
Annually, since 2010, KLPA received over 1,200 entries from over 35 nations, from professionals, keen amateurs as well as newcomers to photography.
The KL Photoawards 2012 Seek for Outstanding Photographs with Minimal Digital Manipulation
Today, we are constantly being flooded with imagery, which are easily and increasingly manipulated by digital filters and apps. Excessive digital manipulation and post-processing has become the norm.
The organizers of the KL International Photoawards have therefore chosen Pure Photography as the overall focus for KLPA 2012. Emphasis will be given to outstanding photographs that have minimal digital manipulation – rewarding content, composition and framing techniques.
KLPA12 also encourages ‘back to basics’ photo-essays in documentary storytelling, where strong editing, relevant titling, narrative and an impactful story will be rewarded.
Official categories for KLPA 2012:
- Portrait Category
Entrants may submit 1 to 8 individual photographs. Seeking the most enigmatic interpretation of what a portrait photograph is. - The Photo-Essay Category (open theme)
Entries will take the form of multimedia submissions. i.e. slideshows which include sound or narration, up to 3:00 minutes long, and hosted on a public website eg. YouTube, Vimeo etc. - Open Category (open theme)
Entrants may submit photographs with no restrictions on theme, genre or subject matter. This is a completely open category, allowing individual stand-alone images from 1 to 8 entries.
Cash Prizes for the Best Three (3) Entries!
The award winning entries will be announced on 2 July 2012. The following prizes will be awarded:
- The First Prize winner in each category will receive a cash prize of US $3,000 plus a specially commissioned trophy and a Pacsafe product.
- The Second Prize winner in each category will receive a cash prize of US $1,000 plus a specially commissioned trophy and a Pacsafe product.
- The Third Prize winner in each category will receive a cash prize of US $500 plus a Pacsafe product.

- The Photo-Essay Category: US $55 per essay
