The Open West Competition 2012 – Exhibit at Gloucester Cathedral

The open west is an annual open competition and exhibition which invites work from national and international artists practising contemporary and conceptual art in the fields of painting, installation, film and sound, textile, photography and ceramics, print, drawing, performance and sculpture.

The open west is delighted to announce its 2012 venue as Gloucester Cathedral. The selected artists will show their work throughout the Interior, the Cloisters, the Crypt and the Garth of this important site, which has a reputation for showing ambitious contemporary work. The open west exhibition will be the first of its kind in this space to show work of such diversity of medium and scale.

Up to 50 artists will be included in the 2012 exhibition, each with the possibility of showing more than one work.

The open west 2012 is open for artworks in different mediums

The open west is accepting artworks in the following mediums:

  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Textile
  • Print
  • Sculpture
  • Drawing
  • Performance
  • Ceramics
  • Mixed media
  • Glass

Exhibition + Monetary Prizes for the winners

The open west also provides the opportunity for artists to participate in an education programme, publishes a limited edition set of artists’ prints, offers an artist’s residency at the Meantime project space and runs a series of artists’ conversations during the exhibition period.

An award of £500 will be made and award winner(s) will be offered a further exhibition in 2012 at the Gardens Gallery.

Artists whose work is selected for exhibition will be notified by the end of November 2011.

Rules

  • The open west is an annual open competition and exhibition inviting work from national and international artists practising contemporary and conceptual art in the fields of painting, installation, film and sound, textile, photography, ceramics, print, drawing, performance and sculpture. There are no geographical restrictions.
  • Artists must be over 21.
  • Work should be recent.
  • Size limitations are according to available space.
  • Provision will be made to accommodate 2D work as well as 3D.

Entry fee

The entry fee is £32 per application of maximum four pieces of work.
