Syngenta, one of the world’s leading companies dedicated to bringing plant potential to life, is hosting a new, global photography competition.
The Syngenta Photography Award offers photographers an important platform for outstanding imagery. It also provides the opportunity to explore, through a photographic commission, an issue of universal significance – such as food security, land preservation, water scarcity or biodiversity.
There are two categories – the Professional Commission and the Open Competition – with a total prize money of $65,000!
Stimulate Dialogue About Our Changing Planet Through Photography
Syngenta is calling professional and amateur photographers to be part of a creative dialogue about our changing planet. The very best photography reaches beyond language. It is a powerful medium for communicating across boundaries, cultures, and different perceptions of the world.
The 2012/2013 theme of the Syngenta Photography Award explores the relationship and tensions between rural and urban environments:
- Over half of the world’s population now lives in urban spaces.
- Yet rural areas provide the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat.
- With competition for land, natural resources and labor increasing, balancing these tensions is critical.
The winning professional photographer will design and complete his own commission, with a grant of up to US$ 25,000.
Winning photographs will form the backdrop to an exhibition and symposium in London on the issues addressed by the Syngenta Photography Award.
