The Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) invites designers from around the world to consider what ‘social good’ truly means and participate in the So(cial) Good Design Awards 2022 international design competition. The Awards celebrate design’s undeniable power to incite meaningful action and make positive change. Winners will receive recognition in the Awards Annual, on the RGD website and across RGD’s other communication channels, the DesignThinkers 2022 — Canada’s largest graphic design conference, an exhibit at the Vancouver Central Library from 28 May 2022 to 10 June 2022 and being presented at venues TBD across Canada and more.

FAP 2022 asks students to submit ideas to reinterpret an existing built entity as a public property that is safe, inviting, sustainable and gives back to the community. Buildings sitting empty have become a more common sight for the past year due to the current health crisis. This is especially so for commercial developments such as office towers and retail malls, as well as cultural or institutional places such as museums and theatre halls. What should we do about these buildings that still have the bones and structural integrity to support activities and life? Could we reinterpret these entities for the public good? FuturArc Prize (FAP) 2022: Reinterpretation asks how corporate/private/state-owned entities in Asia could be reinterpreted as civic/public spaces that are good, inviting, safe and sustainable. Could we turn them, for example, into: high-rise community farms to contribute to the local food supply; solar PV or hydro farms that feed power back to the local grid that are also sites for public amenities; or parks with play and learning areas for children, or communal facilities for the elderly?

3×3, the Magazine of Contemporary Illustration is calling for entries to its 19th (2022) annual International Illustration Awards Show. The competition is open to all illustrators at all levels in all countries. In addition art directors, graphic designers, educators, editors and publishers may enter work completed by illustrators. Over $5,000 in cash prizes and cash-value prizes will be awarded. Awards include best of show, gold, silver and bronze medals as well as distinguished merit and merit awards and honorable mentions. All winners will be promoted online and in the press.

The International Photography Awards (IPA) 2022 have recently opened for entries by all professional, amateur and student photographers around the world. The IPA competition recognizes photography’s leading talents who are creating, shaping and defining the world of photography today. The main professional prize is International Photographer of the Year, selected from the 13 professional category winners and earning the coveted Lucie Trophy and a cash prize of $10,000. The 13 category winners in the non-professional/student categories will compete for the title of Discovery of the Year. The winner will also receive the Lucie Trophy and $5,000 cash prize.

iJungle Graphic Design Awards 2022 is a competition that celebrates the world’s graphic design. Located in Europe, it is opened to designers, agencies, representatives, students and teachers. The Awards are open to Graphic Design works from any country in the world. Entries first created or published from 2019 through 2022 are eligible. A jury of some of the world’s best designers and art directors will select the winners. All winning entrants will be exhibited in the iJungle Graphic Design 2022 Annual. In addition the organizers will also distribute 1 Best of the Best (chosen from one of the gold medalists), 1 Gold medal for each category (Up to 11 gold medals) and Merit Awards for each category (Up to 220 Merit Awards).

Fest Anča International Animation Festival has recently launched the call for entries for its 15th (2022) edition. Animated short films, student films, music videos and films for children are among the competition categories. Only short animated films (under 30 minutes) – completed after 1 January 2020 and submitted with English subtitles – are accepted into the Festival’s competition program.

The Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) has opened for entries to its Global Design Awards for 2022. Eligible for submission are projects that have been completed between 1 January 2019, and 31 December 2021, as for Student entries, projects that have been completed in 2020 or 2021 by full-time students. Winners will be honored at the SEGD Global Design Awards Celebration during the SEGD Conference, 16-18 June, 2022 in Portland.

Celebrating 47 years of images captured by the light microscope, Nikon invites entries to the Small World competitions for 2022. Nikon’s Small World is regarded as the leading forum for showcasing the beauty and complexity of life as seen through the light microscope. The Photomicrography Competition is open to anyone with an interest in microscopy and photography. The video competition, entitled Small World In Motion encompasses any movie or digital time-lapse photography taken through the microscope. Winners will receive one of 20 prizes, sorted according to rank in the competition. The first three prize are $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 (US) respectively.

Entry has opened for the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest 2022, which is aimed at supporting young photo journalists aged 18 to 33 in their striving for top professionalism. The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest was established on 22 December 2014 by Rossiya Segodnya under the patronage of the Russian Federation’s Commission for UNESCO. The Stenin Contest is the only competition in Russia that discovers new names in international photojournalism and develops quality standards for documentary photography. The Grand Prize for 2022 is RUB 700,000 and there are three other monetary prizes for the best work in each competition category.
