Busan Metropolitan City and Design Council Busan are calling for submissions to the 2026 International Busan Design Award (IBDA).
Eligible to enter are undergraduate/graduate students, individuals, and companies; elementary, middle, or high school students, and youth aged 18 or under, as well as invited/nominated designers.
The Grand Prize for 2026 is 20 Million Won (~$13,700). Many additional prizes will be awarded as well. The total prize fund for this year is 56,7 Million Won (~$38,900)!
Entries can belong to one of the following categories, all of which drive toward the goal of creating and developing the field of industrial design, as well as boost the competitiveness of relevant industrial products to advance the overall industrial development.
- Free Theme
- Communication Design and Service Design — Communication design including advertising, graphics, CI, BI, video, multimedia content and all areas of service design, including shared-value design and social innovation design.
- Product Design and Environmental Design — Comprehensive product designs for consumer goods, industrial goods, etc. and environmental design including architecture and public design.
- Craft and Fashion Design (Free Theme)— Comprehensive craft designs such as metals, ceramics, woodwork, paintings, varnishing, textiles, etc. and fashion designs such as clothing, accessories, etc.
- Busan Urban Public Design — Redesign and new design proposals to improve existing public spaces (facilities) in Busan
- Creative proposals across all fields of public design for Busan, aimed at enhancing the urban environment and the quality of public life in the city.
The Busan International Design Award is an international event developed and based on the former Busan Industrial Design Exhibition. It is used as a forum for sharing various design concepts through international design industry exchanges and restorations. It is Asia’s largest international design award.
The competition is organized by Busan Metropolitan City and sponsored by Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, Busan Tourism Organization, Busan Global City Foundation, Kookje Co., Ltd., KNN, Busan MBC, Busan Federation of Designers, SEDIA, Busan Bank, Design House.
