The 2nd edition of the International Aesthetic Design Competition (IADC2027) has opened for submissions.
Hosted by the Department of Architecture at Alanya University in Türkiye, IADC2027 is open for entries and invites architects, urban designers, interior architects, academics, professionals, and professionally supervised student teams from around the world to participate in an international competition.
The best works will be awarded with cash prizes, certificates, publication, and exhibition.
The competition provides an international platform for recognizing design excellence, creativity, innovation, cultural expression, environmental responsibility, and the integration of aesthetics into architecture and urban design.
Both conceptual/unbuilt projects and completed/built projects are eligible, and projects may be located anywhere in the world. There is no predetermined competition site.
Competition Theme
The central theme of IADC2027 is “Aesthetic Design Ideas for a Better World”.
The theme explores the transformative role of aesthetics in architecture and urban design in addressing contemporary environmental, spatial, cultural, and social challenges. Participants are encouraged to present projects demonstrating how aesthetic thinking can contribute to buildings, public spaces, neighbourhoods, urban environments, and communities.
The competition welcomes contemporary and traditional approaches, experimental ideas, contextual solutions, technological innovation, adaptive reuse, regeneration, and environmentally responsive design.
Competition Categories
Participants must select one of the following two classifications when submitting a project:
- ARCHITECTURE — Architectural, interior, building-scale, adaptive-reuse, renovation, regeneration, façade and envelope projects, including new buildings, conceptual projects, interiors, built projects, and architectural interventions.
- URBAN DESIGN — Neighbourhood, district, public-space, streetscape, waterfront, regeneration and urban-scale projects, including streets, squares, urban corridors, and urban landscapes.
Participants should select the classification that most closely represents the principal scale and design intention of the project.
The organizer lists the following aesthetic dimensions as guidance: harmony and proportion, material selection, color and texture, spatial composition, light and shadow, cultural and contextual relevance, user experience, sustainability integration, innovation and uniqueness, and visual impact.
