The call for entries for 2017, for BP Portrait Award — the most prestigious portrait painting competition in the world — has been opened.
This competition represents the very best in contemporary portrait painting and is open to everyone aged 18 and over.
This time, the total prize fund amounts to £61,000, of which £30,000 are reserved for the First Prize winner.
The competition is limited to one entry per artist. The work must have been completed after 1 January 2016.
Selection includes two rounds of judging, one for the second round of judging and one for the exhibition. All entrants will be notified if their work has been selected for the second round of judging by 16 February 2017. The result of the second round of judging will be announced by 16 March 2016.
All award winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, 20 June 2016. The public exhibition is scheduled for 22 June–24 September 2017 at the National Portrait Gallery in London, UK.
