Lucca Biennale Cartasia (LuBiCa) festival is the biggest art event dedicated to paper art. Artists that work with cardboard and paper are encouraged to participate in the contest with an innovative project for a monumental sculpture.
LuBiCa is looking for emerging and affirmed artists to work in Lucca, Tuscany, during an artistic residency in July 2022.
The selected artworks will be exhibited in the most popular squares of the city during the event, scheduled for 31st July — 25th September, 2022.
“The White Page” is the theme of the 2022 edition of the festival.
The theme has a double-sided message: could represent endless opportunities and at the same time the anxiety of it all, the possibility of a brighter future and a leap of faith into the unknown, a white page is a bridge between the past and the future.
LuBiCa 2022 has two open call for artists:
- Outdoor Exhibition – for works of art that involve the use of paper and its by-products highlighting the original, bold, unique and innovative use of this material
- Indoor Exhibition – for works or performances that involve the use of paper highlighting the original, bold, unique and innovative use of this material
Lucca Biennale is among the most important events dedicated to paper applied to art, design, architecture and creativity, as paper is also an ancient material locally produced in the area of Lucca. It’s one of a kind: every edition a theme tied to current events is chosen which the exhibition adheres to, to underline the connection between art and society. It gives the spectator food for thought, guided by the most innovative techniques of paper art.Lucca Biennale presents art exhibitions, projects, events, conferences and workshops.
