Venus Febriculosa, a website devoted to contemporary literature and the art and design of books, is currently hosting its 10th competition dedicated to Tom Phillips’ book “A Humument”. The purpose of the contest is to foster interest in literature and its relation to the visual arts. Since 1966, artist Tom Phillips has been transforming each page of a ‘found novel’ (W.H. Mallock’s 1892 A Human Document) into a ‘visual-poetic artist’s book’ called “A Humument”. The contest is to create an original visual-poetic work using Page 4 of the novel using any techniques and methods. Tom Phillips will select the winning submissions and each winner will receive a limited edition print from “A Humument” signed and editioned by the artist.

Venus febriculosa, the website devoted to contemporary literature and the art and design of books, is hosting its ninth design contest called: Visualizing Verse: The Narrative of Illustration. A particularly evocative poem has been chosen and Venus febriculosa is inviting artists from all over the world to come up with an illustration of this text — as ‘literal’ as possible, in visual terms, to the text. The top ten entries will be included in an academic publication and the winner will be awarded $500.

Venus febriculosa, a website devoted to contemporary literature and the art and design of books, is hosting its eight design contest, dedicated to Brian Eno’s album “Music for Films”. Even though this album already has a great cover, Venus febriculosa is inviting you to design a new one. The purpose of the contest is to foster interest in literature and music and their relation to the visual arts. There will be a $500 US prize for the entry that jurors like best as well as some special Eno-related prizes to be announced.

Venus febriculosa, a website devoted to contemporary literature and the art and design of books, announces its Contest No. 7: Hunger. The purpose of the contest is to address the cause of world hunger through the design of a poster that may be used in a global hunger awareness campaign. Previous Venus febriculosa book cover contests have included Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, The Eel by Eugenio Montale, and This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski. The designer of the winning submission will receive a cash award of $1200 and will be featured on Venus febriculosa.
