The B-Side 2.0 – International Design Contest

Persiceto Marmi, an Italian marble processing enterprise, in cooperation with Bologna’s Architects Professional Association, is hosting an international design contest for stone recycling.

The B Side 2.0 is open to every creative mind that wants to confront with the issue of (stone manufacturing leftovers) recycling and smart use of resources, for both individual or team projects.

A total of 10,000 Euro will be awarded in prizes, in two categories, to a total of six winners. Prize-winning designers and mentioned ones will be invited to participate to the award and presentation ceremony that will be held in Bologna, during the Bologna Design Week 2016.

The objective of The B-Side 2.0 is to investigate the possibility of producing items of furniture through the scraps of workmanship and materials that remain unused for a long time, which constitute a cost factor both for Persiceto Marmi and the community.

The type of material is very broad because it can be used all natural stones that are part of the normal supplies of a company that performs this type of work. For this reason it is not possible to provide an exhaustive list of types of stone, as well as all the working methods and the available treatments. As an illustrative, yet incomplete example, the most frequent scraps are in granite, marble, onyx, travertine, sandstone.

Entries can be submitted in the following two categories:

  • Outdoor – furniture for private and/or public spaces – as seats, tables, bins etc – that considers the use of bigger scraps
  • Kitchen – complements and/or objects made with smaller scraps

All contest entries will be published on The B-Side 2.0 official website and the Bologna’s Architects Professional Association website.
