SongCircle Music 5th Annual Songwriting Contest

Newly launched independent music development and A&R community SongCircle Music (formerly The New York Songwriters’ Circle) is accepting entries for its fifth annual songwriting contest. The SongCircle’s contest has quickly become a hotbed for discovering aspiring artists.

In 2010, contestants will compete for over $25,000 in cash and prizes for the best original songs which includes a recording, publishing and full label services joint venture agreement with SongCircle Music distributed by EMI, cash awards up to $10,000, guitars from Gibson and Martin, studio sessions with a top record producers, and more.

Objective

Submit a recording of six minutes or less and an accompanying lyric sheet.

Songs will be judged based on:

  • structure,
  • melody,
  • lyrics,
  • uniqueness and
  • performance/presentation.

Prizes

In 2010, contestants will compete for over $25,000 in cash and prizes for the best original songs which includes a recording, publishing and full label services joint venture agreement with SongCircle Music distributed by EMI, cash awards up to $10,000, guitars from Gibson and Martin, studio sessions with a top record producers, and more.

The “top 12” finalists will be invited to perform live in front of a panel of music industry judges from major publishers, booking agents, record companies, producers, and media executives at the City Winery in New York City on 18 and 19th November 2010.

Each finalist is responsible for their own travel (and other) expenses in performing at the live finalist event in New York City.

Rules

  • The contest is open to all premium level members of the SongCircle community, except where prohibited by law. Premium members can enter songs for free as a feature of their paid memberships. SongCircleMusic.com offers two premium level memberships as well as a free membership that is open to all; however, free members may not enter any songs in the Contest.
  • Each song submitted must be in the English language and be the contestant’s original work, both musically and lyrically (i.e., no “covers”); and must include vocal performance(s) (i.e., no rap lyrics without vocal performances).
  • Songs may have multiple co-writers, but you must designate one name only on the entry form, and the named contestant must own or control 100% of both the submitted recording(s) and the underlying composition(s) or must have the express consent of each co-writer and co-performer to enter the song in the contest in accordance with these official rules & regulations.
  • Recordings may not exceed six (6) minutes in length.
  • Submissions must not contain obscenity, defamatory or libelous material, unauthorized copyrighted material, or anything else that could be considered inappropriate, unsuitable or offensive, as determined solely by SC.
  • Contestants may submit as many qualifying songs as they wish, but each entry requires submission of separate entry materials and may only be made in accordance with the terms of your SongCircle Premium Membership.

Your entry should consist of:

  • One recording of six (6) minutes or less (in MP3, CD or cassette format) and an accompanying lyric sheet;
  • Payment of any extra filing fees for any Song above your Premium Membership level benefits; and
  • One completed entry form.

Entry fee

SongCircle Music yearly premium membership costing $49,95 is required to enter.
