The United Nations / Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Awards are now open for entries in the 2016 cartoon competition.
Eligible for entry are works done from the beginning of September 2015, to the 15th of October 2016, reflecting the importance of human dignity, mutual respect and friendship among nations, as well as economic consideration and environmental responsibilities towards each other.
The total prize money fund for 2016 is $18,000, of which $10,000 are reserved for the First Prize winner, $5,000 for the Second Prize winner and $3,000 for the Third Prize winner. Plaques will also be awarded to the winners of the first three prizes. Ten (10) honorable mentions will also be announced.
Entries may be made by any professional individual and should consist of political cartoons printed in any publication and in any language.
Winning cartoons will be chosen for their high professional standards in art, political analysis of events, projection of events to come, humor, while also reflecting the spirit and principles of the U.N.
The United Nations has established this annual competition in 2005, to promote the highest standard of excellence in political cartoons. It is named after political cartoonist Ranan Lurie.
