The Quickdraw Animation Society has started accepting submissions for its 12th GIRAF International Festival of Independent Animation.
The 2016 Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival (GIRAF) is open for independent and artful animated films that push the boundaries of animation in unexpected ways and are not commercial.
The selected films will be presented during GIRAF 12, scheduled for November 2016 at the Globe Cinema in Calgary, Canada. The best International and Canadian short films will be awarded. Other films may also get recognition for their outstanding artistic merit.
Submitted films may be abstract or narrative, hand-drawn or computer-generated, by students or by well-established professionals, or somewhere in between. The important thing is they push boundaries through the development of new animation techniques, hybrid forms of creation, and challenging subject matter.
GIRAF is run by the Quickdraw Animation Society, a non-profit, artist-run centre in Calgary, Alberta.
