The World Habitat Awards, a competition that recognizes innovative, sustainable and scalable solutions to key housing challenges facing communities around the world, has opened application for 2015.
The host – Building and Social Housing Foundation (BSHF), invites innovative housing projects to apply for the 2015/16 cycle for the chance to gain recognition for their work.
Like any previous year, for the 2015/16 World Habitat Awards an award of £10,000 will be presented to each of the two winners. Winners are presented at the World Urban Forum (even years) and UN-Habitat Governing Council (odd years).
Building and Social Housing Foundation (BSHF) is seeking for projects that provide practical solutions to current housing needs and problems. Housing projects and approaches are sought that:
- demonstrate practical, innovative and sustainable solutions to current housing issues faced by countries all around the world
- can be transferred or adapted for use as appropriate
- are already being implemented or are completed – not at design stage or very early stages of development
- view the term habitat from a broad perspective and bring other benefits as well, such as energy or water saving, income generation, social inclusion, community and individual empowerment, health benefits, capacity building or education.
The World Habitat Awards were established in 1985 as part of the organizer’s contribution to the United Nations International Year of Shelter for the Homeless.
