The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is seeking applications from international (non-Canadian) artists for 4–6 week individual production residencies to take place between September 2011 and August 2012. LIFT is an artist-run production and educational media arts organization dedicated to celebrating excellence in the moving image. It supports a wide range of production formats including Regular 8mm, Super 8mm, 16mm, Super 16mm, 35mm and HD; film and digital editing; optical printers; contact printers; animation stands; a darkroom and more. Toronto also offers a range of lab facilities, a large pool of experienced technicians and talent, a vibrant film community and a dynamic arts environment. Target GroupLIFT’s residency program focuses on the production of film-based works with equipment and facilities to which the artist would not have access in their local region.

The Geek Film Festival aims to present geek film and geek interest film to audiences through documentary, narrative, animation, experimental and fan films. The U.S. Green Building Council wants everyone to submit their idea for the next design challenge in the Natural Talent Design Competition. By submitting your idea, you may have the chance to affect your own community. All you have to do is create a simple submission and send it to them! USGBC will be holding a charrette in mid to late March to determine the next design challenge for the competition. It will be using your submissions to drive the discussion, so make sure your idea is at the table! The best submission will have the opportunity to participate in the charrette along side green building and community development visionaries. ObjectiveChoose a subject that represents a need. This can be a person, place or other item within your community that would greatly benefit from a sustainable building solution. The more powerful the need the better, as USGBC is looking for ideas on how a green building can transform a community.

The Royal Observatory, Greenwich is proud to present another round of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year, showcasing some incredible images of the sky, from within our solar system to deep space. Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2011 has competition categories for everyone, including young astro-photographers, and there are some great prizes to be won. And this year there are also three special awards – one for newcomers, another for shots that creatively capture people and space, and a third for images that have been taken by robotic/remote telescopes and that have been processed by yourself.
