HUGO Create is back with another creative challenge. This one’s quite different from the previous contests. Instead of designing posters with the HUGO Boss bottle, for the Game Challenge, HUGO Create is asking you to create a level for the HUGO Create Game. HUGO Create – The Game is a free iPhone app, a unique fusion of sound and motion, that you can download and use for your creations. In this challenge, ten winners will be selected randomly and each will receive $500 cash.

Filmmakers are invited to submit their new features, short films, music videos and title sequences to the annual event, a renowned destination for discovery. The SXSW Film Conference and Festival is a uniquely creative environment featuring the dynamic convergence of talent, smart audiences and industry heavyweights. The SXSW Film Festival is a highly competitive program consisting of several different sections, curated in-house by SXSW Film Programmers. SXSW is an official qualifying festival for the Academy Awards Short Film competition. The Best Narrative Short and Best Animated Short winners become eligible for the Academy Awards.

Pictoplasma, the world’s leading organisation dedicated to contemporary character design and art in all its many facets and media, is calling for entries for its latest research project called “The Missing Link”. Pictoplasma is seeking for white, hairy, friendly creatures, just feature-less enough to serve as the perfect empty screen for the viewers to project their own narration, yet exactly the right amount of hairiness, to make you want to get into physical cuddle-mode. This is an open call, the results from which will be presented at the heart of the upcoming Pictoplasma Exhibition in Paris.

Kunstwerk Carlshütte, a non-profit initiative of the ACO Group, and the towns of Büdelsdorf and Rendsburg, organises the NordArt, an annual international exhibition of visual arts from June to the beginning of October. The art exhibited at NordArt is selected by a jury and features all visual art media. The exhibition in summer 2011 displayed the work of 250 artists from 55 countries, selected from 1200 applications from 72 countries. Each year one artist is awarded the NordArt-Prize, worth €10,000, with the aim to support the art and culture scene.

The organizers of International festival of animated films AniFest are happy to announce the 11th edition of the festival. AniFest 2012 will be held from 26th April to 1st June 2012 and will celebrate the magic of magic puppet and the centennary of puppet master Jiří Trnka. AniFest 2012 welcomes animated films of any kind – feature-length, short, music videos, student films, experimental films etc. The mission of the festival is to contribute to the expansion of animated work and to present it year-round in all its forms. Back for 2011, the Web Font Awards is the ceremony celebrating the newfound typographic freedom that Web designers are experiencing across the globe. The competition recognizes designers and websites that are putting this emerging technology to greatest use. Aimed at promoting Web font awareness and adoption, the Web Font Awards is open to eligible users of any Web font service or technology that uses an @font-face declaration. The competition culminates with a live award ceremony at the Future of Web Design conference, to be held 7–9 November, in New York City.

The Federation of European Photographers (FEP) has recently started accepting fine art photography entries for its annual European Fine Art Photograph of the Year Award. The aim of this prize is to reward and stimulate creative initiatives by professional photographers, who may often be constrained with assignment work. The competition is totally web based; registering, hosting and judging will all be carried out online. The best 13 pictures will be printed for inclusion in the awards collection which will travel throughout major European countries. A “FEP, European Fine Art Photograph of the Year Award” trophy and certificates will be awarded.
