The 2014 Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) – themed “Circle of Life” – has recently been announced by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan and scheduled for 30 May – 31 July 2014. Students around the world are once again invited to think creatively, exchange their creative designs and develop their creative talents. This year the competition has four categories – Product Design, Visual Design, Digital Animation, and Brand Specified – and the theme “Circle of Life” should be expressed in the creative designs submitted in all categories.

The Northern Arizona University (NAU) Art Museum is currently accepting artwork for the “Painting in the World: Reflections on Politics, Violence, and Reconciliation” juried exhibition competition. In September 2014, the Northern Arizona University (NAU) Art Museum will produce this juried exhibition of paintings created around inter-woven themes of politics, violence and reconciliation. Three (3) awards with a total fund of $1600 are available for the best paintings.

National Geographic Society has recently started accepting submissions for its 26th (2014) annual Traveler Photo Contest, with the intention to once again award stunning travel photography from around the globe. The 2014 contest has four competition categories: Travel Portraits; Outdoor Scenes; Sense of Place; and Spontaneous Moments. The grand-prize winner will receive an eight-day National Geographic Expedition to Alaska for two aboard the National Geographic Sea Lion or National Geographic Sea Bird.

The Japanese company Kokuyo has announced the 2014 call for entries to its Design Awards contest, an annual international event that celebrates the art of product design from the user’s perspective. The theme of this year’s contest is Next Quality; submissions will focus on stationery and furniture design. The Grand Prix for 2014 is ¥2,000,000 – almost US$20,000 – and four (4) Merit awards of ¥500,000 each – almost US$5,000 – are available as well. The winning designs may also be selected for further development into commercial products in the future.

Epson has just opened the 2014 International Pano Awards competition to once again find and award the work of the best panoramic photographers around the world. The Epson International Pano Awards is the largest competition for panoramic photography. The 2014 competition is open to all professional and amateur photographers with a combined pool of cash and prizes of approximately US$40,000! The 2014 Awards are divided into three (3) separate competitions, with several competition categories.

The Print Design Photography (PDP) Conference 2014, scheduled for 21-23 May in Novi Sad, Serbia, is currently accepting applications for two creative Student contests – one for poster design and one for photography. Students from any part of the world may participate with creative poster designs, single image photography and photography in series. Selected works will become part of an exhibition to be held in Serbia, Brazil and Bosnia and Herzegovina and the authors will be awarded with PDP prizes.

The Moriyama RAIC International Architecture Prize – one of the world’s largest and most prestigious cash prizes in architecture, awarded biannually – is currently open for submissions for 2014. Any architect, architecture firm or architecture collaboration from anywhere in the world may enter a building or project that has been completed andoccupied within the last two years. The winner receives CAD $100,000 and a handcrafted sculpture designed by internationally renowned Canadian designer Wei Yew. Depicting abstractions of the Canadian landscape, no two pieces will be entirely alike.

Apache Storm, the free and open source distributed realtime computation system, is seeking for an official logo and currently calling for entries in its logo design contest. All creatives around the world are invited to submit their designs. The winning artist will be credited on the Apache Storm website as having designed the logo, and may include a link to her/his website or blog. For those of you who don’t already know, Apache Storm is a platform for distributed, fault-tolerant, real-time computation that has been undergoing incubation at the Apache Software Foundation since 18 September 2013. Apache is a volunteer organization that has curated many free, open source software projects. If you’ve used the internet, you’ve used Apache software.
